Some of you in other countries may remember that in the aftermath if the recent terroirst bombings in London an innocent Brazillian was shot.
There was a lot of talk about this being wrong but understandable but in the light of a leaked government report, this tragedy is far worse than it could have been.
The Key points being
1) The guy was not wearing a padded winter coat but a denim jacket.
2) He did not vault the ticket barrier _ he walked in, stopped to pick up a free paper and put his ticket in the barrier.
3) he did not run upon being challenged by police - He actually wasn't challenged and was running for the train.
4) 11 shots were fired not 8, 3 of them missed
5) A clear positive id was not made "I could not positively identify this male as Hussein Osman, but he had distinctive Mongolian eyes". However someone claimed to make a positive id which cleared the officers to shoot to kill. Problem being no one seems to know who made the id.
6) He was restrained when the shooting took place

This isn't the best response, ever, but "I toldja so."
I said this smelled fishy, as reported. If further details suggested it was fully justified, then that would've been that... but THIS just sucks rectum.
(#6, especially.) Thanks for the update, rs.

My response exactly. too many things weren't adding up and too many details were a little...how shall we say.....fuzzy

I was totally disgusted when I initially heard about this. Later on, when it was discovered that he was an innocent Brazilian immigrant I felt sick to my stomach. Ever since September 11th here in the U.S diversity has been deemed as something to fear. Anyone that might have fit the authorities bland descriptions suddenly had something to worry about. It's ridiculous.
Seems to me like it's heading that way for England now too.

"Distinctive Mongolian eyes." Well, there you go. Can't have someone with those walking around the Underground unmolested. Case dismissed!

Indeed.
Make sure to hold Rodney Kin... errr... the Mongolian down when you shoot him.

I'm still waiting for the actual CCTV footage, if they say there is none. That is a load of bollocks, the amount of camera in the ticket hall alone would've caught the action a decent amount of times.
From what I got on the news, there were 2 officers that commited the murder
Why did all the people who saw what happened said he had a padded coat on as well
But the police were going out today too kill someone to "send a message". Thing is, people will still defend it no matter what comes out

Actually, I think it would be more interesting if these cops had a personal grudge against this guy, and were using the "we thought he was a terrorist" thing as a cover-up.
That'd make a great episode of "Law and Order."

There is footage, its how they know he picked up a paper and walked through the barrier. Now there's suspicious behaviour if ever I saw it

Yeah it would. It'd proabably help this to make a little more sense in the real world. Now if the guy had tried to date rape one of the police officers girlfriends then I personally would've considered this to be a perfectly sensible reaction. Since this isn't the case nine bullets are just that much harder to justify.
I'm still waiting for the actual CCTV footage
So am I. It kinda has to be out there. If not then I smell some bullshit.
Not that this situation doesn't reek of it already.

Most suspicious indeed. From now on I'll walk everywhere.

I thought that was from eye eyewitnesses
But yeah, real suspicious, maybe he was just trying too catch up on the news before killing himself, maybe he wanted too hear the latest transfer rumours, or check his stocks. All for free of course
I recently read an interesting post about Michelle Malkin's book justifying interment based on the physical racial profiles of Japanese Americans during WWII. The critique basically said that even though Michelle Malkin claimed she was not saying that she thought we should do the same for Arab males, she still took a practice which was known to have been horribly racist, arbitrary and morally wrong and made it intellectually legitimate to defend it. Which is the first step to normalizing a despicable behavior.
And while I won't lay this at Malkins feet, I have to say that the public, myself included, sure was willing and ready to believe the official story about the London shooting. I found myself arguing with my step-father that you can't blame the cops because of the behavior and looks of the young man. And this goes to show how easily it is to manipulate people when they buy into a cheap and morally suspect behavior like racial profiling.
After all, the racial profile of Arab males - dark to black skin and black hair - can include a billion Indians, many Eur-asians and many Latin Americans.

Yeah. My wife and I had a similar discussion in which she defended the cops on this one too. I found this to be mighty absurd on her part, considering she herself grew up in Latin America. Personally I think she just believes in the inherent good nature of people. I sure as hell don't. In my opinion there's much, much more proof that, if anything, people are inherently evil.

Where the sodding hell did these guys get trained?! Oh no, a guy in a denim jacket who didn't look like the suspect is running for a train after walking through the ticket barrier- I can see why you needed to hold him down and shoot him in the head. Idiots. You are supposed to protect civilians, not blow their drokking brains out because of your own stupidity.

These three facts alone should put every police officer on the scene in jail.
Had events matched up to the original story I would accept it as panic on the part of all concerned and could see arguments for them keeping thier badges as reasoned, but this....
