Thanks.
I am a bit frustrated now. I really hoped it would be out sooner.
Oh well.

and yes there is a lack of Matt Wagner on here (except Grendel of course)

While $50 for Hero Defined is rather steep, it is 15 issues of an excellent and hard to find series. Plus the quality of the trade, judging form Hero Discovered, is excelllent. Never read the book before, but took a chance on the first mega trade that came out rencently and I am now quite a Mage fan. Still gotta show it off to my roomate and others.

you should be able to get it for around 30 on amazon when it comes out

comic geek mode: anyone else feel guilty/conflicted reading hero defined and thinking how hot Magda is?

I got the softcover of Hero discovered so I will probably hold out for the softcover of Hero Defined.

And then have a nervous breakdown waiting on MW getting round to doing Hero Denied.

I'm hoping a softcover TPB will come out sooner rather than later, with all the extras of course. US$49.95 would kill me.

Any word on the TPB yet folks?

Are you saying the entire Hero Discovered run was collected in 1 soft-cover TPB? If that's true I gotta get it. I got the 8 mini-collections that Image did during the Hero Defined run. I got the 4-5 collections of Hero Defined, but I would love to have it in one collection as well...but I don't plan on dropping $50 for a hard-cover.

I bought Hero Discovered hardback last year without ever reading it based on my faith in Matt Wagner (and Sam Keith)'s other work and the word of my local comic book dealer. Since then I've been itching for the second series, Hero Defined, to come out in a similar "Definitive" form. I now cannot wait for the third series to materialize.

What a great book. First, the art was not what I expected as it lacked the "soft" quality of the Keith/Wagner airbrush technique but was still excellent. The story was fantastic as far as Im concerned. I'm a fan of Joseph Campbell's Hero with a thousand faces and was excited to see not just the hero's journey but the multiple identity aspects incorporated into the story.

My question then is who is Foxfire? Who else is Kirby? And what will be Ut's third incarnation?

I'm hoping sometime soon after Wagners Batman miniseries...

Is the Mage #0 story collected in the HC? I like seeing the Grendel backups in the Hero Discovered HC.

yes the zero issue is in the HC

Grendel backups? There werent any grendel backups in my Hero Discovered HC

I was slightly disappointed with the covers & extras content of the new hc. I would have liked to hear matt's comments for each cover as he did with the first series. Maybe an essay on the experience of coming back to the property, and then a look back at the fan reaction to the new series.

It's the interlude and with all the french dialouge. That was originally published as a backup in Grendel over at Comico.

The Wagner commentary in the first hardcover is all compiled from the Hero Discovered reprints that Image published a few years back.

Ah, by grendel backups I thought you meant the grendel stories that started appearing with Mage #6

Does anybody else have these problems in their HCs? I was think of spending money on this...

Turns out I spent money on this and those errors are in the book. Turns out the entire print run...

Still it's amazing what some scissors, rubber cement and some back issues in less then "Fine" condition can do...

So if you are thinking of spending 40 bucks on this you might want to scour the quarter boxes for tattered copies of issue #9 and #4.
