I was reading through the Rayner GL series and towards the end, i think in 175 or 176, Terry gets a ring. Has this ever been explained or dealt with?

Or hell...even MENTIONED anywhere outside of that page?

I don't know about anyone else, but let's hope that that plot is NEVER followed up on. Anything from the days of Winick as GL writer is hope is just completely forgotten.

Or hell...even MENTIONED anywhere outside of that page?Kinda, sorta. It's the big splash panel for the end of GL#175. And in the big splash panel for the BEGINNING of #176 (the first of six issues by Ron Marz), Kyle is zooming through the skies of Earth thinking to himself that packing his "essence" up into his ring and sending it FTL to Terry "worked", and that's how he's back.

It's a patch over a plot hole a LOT bigger than "Terry's got a GL ring". Kyle, if you recall, had been stabbed in the back by the insta-grown-up girl Guardian Lianna, and left to die!

So it was dealt with by NOT dealing with it, and by pulling a giant green rabbit out of a hat. (Oy - comics! )

Marz pretty much took the chance to say " Screw this' on Raab's run because he was writing Kyle Rayner and only had 6 issues to deal with wrapping his personal sub-plots. He brought Kyle back to Earth and started the arc.

As I recall no one in my comic shop was demanding to see Terry Berg Green Lantern at this point. Because we all agreed....that Raab run sucked and Winick didn't do Kyle any favors eithor.

Aren't you guys all impressed when you read that people not only LIKED Winick's run on GL but also thought that Judd made Kyle a better, more respectable hero?

Not really. Because Winick just made Kyle , Hal Jordan lite. Gone was the guy who was an everyman and growing into being Green Lantern.

It was a sad...sad day when Ron Marz left Kyle.

I must have been reading a totally diferent book than you people. BUt I remember Kyle laying there half dead . thinking to himself something along the lines of. "I have to try it, I dont know if this'll work yadda yadda yadda.". It was written as him obviously trying that trick. My comics are no where near in order so I dont have to issue to compare it to. But I remember it being fairly self explanatory that he was triying that. I know peeps like to hate on Winicks run. It was only good enough for me to get certain issues myself. But I dont think you can put this one up as Winnick making Terry a temp GL. Or is there some interview or something that gave you guys that impression?

I'm sorry, didn't Cap close this discussion two days ago? Why do you (plural) think anyone's changed their minds in the past 48 hours?

(In fact, didn't he invite someone to post a fairly pointed question on Ron Marz's board right here at CBR?)

Topic was about Jade in all forms, not about Terry Berg.

Question wasn't pointed and wasn't regarding anything in the last GL series.

wasn't terry berg kyle's homosexual lover and if hal hadn't came back that kyle would have been dc's first openly gay hero?

It was about Jade and the Terry plot in some ways. Marz came in and told why he did what he did because of DC.

I went to his board and asked if he ever had any plans to write Kyle Rayner in the future with Green Lantern Corps launching next year. He answered the my question and it was nothing heated.

I'm rereading Kyle's series now (haven't gotten to the end yet) and if I recall, he did will himself to Terry. Raab's hands were tied throughout his entire run and really couldn't do much of anything because of it (they had Hal's return on their minds). The result was Star Wars-lite and some bad storytelling. I would also interject that towards the end of Judd's run didn't help matters. He should've dealt w/ Jade before he left (I mean, it was obvious he was having her go to The Outsiders) so that Raab didn't have to and could've focused on something else. Raab had to tie up Judd's loose ends, while Marz had to do the same w/ Raab's. And now someone will have to do the same w/ Marz'.
