Nearly everyone had doubts about this movie. The cast seemed weak and people questioned why this Franchise was getting a movie. In fact I heard laughs when Jessica Simpson and Johnny Knoxville was cast.

But guess what movie got 1# this week ? Thos Duke Boys took the 1# spot with $ 30.5 Million. Tell me thats not funny. ;)

I really don't think this surprised anyone. It was an obvious first weekend hit with its appeal to 80's nostalgists and college guys.

I didn't see it, I didn't even like the original show when I was nine.

Well, honestly, $30 million is a pretty weak opening weekend. Especially for a movie this hyped.

It was hyped with a production of 50 Million so....Its pretty much gonna make some money back.

The second half of the summer season tends to be leading towards the dump season of September, and trails off from the July 4th weekend on downward.

See this thread to see what I think should be done with this movie:

August is the month when movie studios dump their losses. If the studio believed it to be a big hit, they would have released the film between May-July.

Or maybe they saw the heavy summer shedule of huge movies and planned August as the day to release it. This also played into why the Pink Panther wasn't released this year. They felt it would get lost in the summer/fall movies and pushed it back to hype it more and hope it finds a better crowd next spring.

That happens all the time.

'Proof' has been done for a year but is being held in hopes of getting Oscar consideration this year.

'Finding Neverland' was done two years ago but couldn't be released until after the 'Peter Pan' remake, due to a contractual obligation.

'Once Upon a Time In Mexico' sat around for a year too and then, luckily, hit right as Johnny Depp exploded as box office due to 'Pirates of the Caribbean.'

It's not funny. It ties with Peter Jennings for the most depressing news item I've seen today.

Somehow a man's death seems like it should carry a little more weight than a T&A movie making some cash.

The tits are Johnny Knoxville & Crude Dude Luke. The boobs stayed on Jessica Simpson.

You could say that about anything though. "I wonder how many hungry people Schindler's List's take could have fed."

Yeah, let's sit around here on a comic-book forum and complain about wasting money.

Either you like a movie or you don't--but don't pretend there's some moral high ground about refusing to see one that doesn't interest you.

Damn you man! I object to seeing a Hot as hell babe in daisy dukes and bikini , beside a hot car! I object because my morals and my vows of Christian cellibacy have made me angry. :evilsmile

At least "Schindler's List" had artistic value. "Dukes" was kidult entertaiment.
