View Full Version : My vow to DC about Infinite Crisis

I've noticed that they have been bringing back characters in Limbo and such with the events of IC and a number have been bumped off. And now that it's been declared a sequel to CoIE I am making this vow.
If they bring back Dr.Light aka Kimiyo Hoshi, handle her horribly, have her be wearing her horrid yellow and white costume, and kill her off than I will forever loose faith in DC.
Call me obsessive, call me what you will but I swear it...she is too good of a character to be bumped off. Change her name yes that's better than killing her off.
Now I know most of you will be like "who" with this Dr.Light I'm talking about, and if you don't know than just look back about my other threads to find out about her cause I will NOT go into another rant about her. However I will say this...she is the character that did the most damage to the CoIE villain the Anti-Monitor, she was introduced and handled great in that series and was crucial in the reformation of the JLA...than she was put into Limbo than brought back and was treated horribly...she was treated in a way worse than death, she became extremely sterotypical. To bring her out of limbo now and than kill her off would be a huge cop out and a huge diservice. I was saddened by the death of Harbinger but I wasn't that big of a fan of her in CoIE.
Now I am hoping that DC is using JLU to promote awarness of her and maybe this is a sign of hope that she'll live through IC and maybe become more used in the DC Continuity. I mean I remember she was one of the top people that Message boards were demanded be voiced by Epilogue.
So that is all I have to say...again call me obsessed or whatever but if DC kills her off, a character who was crucial to CoIE and was through the gutter in such horrible ways, she deserves better than to be bumped off.

The way she has been ignored, I don't really see her being used in IC at all.

I feel like the female Dr. Light gets treated a lot like Marvel's female Captain Marvel. Way too little respect for a character with great potential.

You mean the woman formerly Photon/Captain Marvel and is now Pulsar? I forget her real name though but yeah there's a compairison between how they've been treated but I feel between the two, the Female Dr.Light has gotten the short end of the stick.
Like I said a horrid costume change, and she was made sterotyped with other Japanese...especially with making her a student of Budhism AND she went from a tough as nail heroine to a whiner, rather incompitant at being a leader, person.
Also with the fact that she was created AND a crucial figure of the original Crisis I think there's a chance she'll appear in IC...it's what happends to her during that apperance that worries me

Well considering the DCU right now maybe it's a good thing for this character that she's being ignored for the time being.

Just for the record, Captain Marvel/Photon/Pulsar's real name is Monica Rambeau. Why I know that I haven't a clue.

I'm always amused how a person could have ONE thing that would totally destroy his or her faith in DC. I could understand why you might not like something -- heck, something like that happens to me every month -- but comeon, at the end of the day, it's not that important. Especially not Dr. Light.<g>

It's a non-issue, really. Most people have never heard about this character, she has not been used in years, and she's not very popular, to say the least. Why would DC bring her back from limbo just to kill her?

well first of all they brought back Psycho Pirate...also she was a key figure in COIE...I mean she blasted the Anti-Monitor and based off of the Brother Satellite for taking out all those that are threats she might be one of them if she can absorb a suns energy and do excessive damage.

Even in Crisis, she wasn't that key. Did she do anything of importance? (It's been so long.<g>)

I hate to rain on your parade, but that was twenty years ago. She's just a footnote in the history of the DC universe.

(It's been so long.<g>)Weeeellll, in the "Post-Crisis Crisis" (i.e., the way the "Crisis" happened once the multiverse was homogenized and all time was changed so there had never been more than the Positive and Negative Universes), she apparently played a major part in the final destruction of the Anti-Monitor.
I mean, there WAS NO "Earth-2 Superman" and never had been, so it would appear to have been Kimi's cosmic zap that finished the Anti-Monitor off. (I'm not sure this has ever been spelled out, though.)

Eh...blasting DC's most powerful villian with such for it sent him miles into a planetoid as if it were watch as well as damage his armor/suit/whatever. Her blast is what finished him off....also she was resposible for Supergirl's death. Supergirl was hammering at the Anti-Monitor, Kimiyo called to her and said she'd help, Supergirl turned to tell her no and to leave with Superman...the Anti-Monitor took this time to blast her and finish her off. Also she's still remembered, whenever they make reference to Blue Beetle and the others in the JLA years ago, JLA #1, she's always there in costume, even though she never wore her costume during that time she's still remembered

Like I said, minor character. In fact, so minor, I don't even remember much beyond her existence. BTW, I don't think not saving Supergirl is a point in her favor.

Wait, she was in the Giffen League, right?
I'll take her in the death pool. Eaten by The Shark.

Technically she was in the JLE/I AFTER Giffen left...he only used her in the first JLA issues and had her leave. He handled her GREAT

Odds are with this being a COIE sequel then I fear for her chances. Seems that DC's on a path to create less confusion between the female/male Dr.Lights and she maybe on the firing range.
As we saw in the Wizard preview Black Condor is toast. And with words that many heroes & villains will die...things don't look good.

That is just my point! She's a character who started out with all this potentional but now has dwindled down to something like
"Who was that who just died?"
"Dr.Light"
"The guy who raped sue?"
"No this is a female hero"
"There's another one?"
"Yeah"
"Ah...who gives a S$%^"
"You said it"

Pretty much thats how it will go. If she does die they'll wonder who she is and someone will remember her.

Wasn't Dr. Light created to be a Titan? (Then Marv changed his mind?) I wouldn't mind her being put back on that team (Or on Outsiders) when all is said and done.

I actually asked Marv in an e-mail what he had planned but he said he does not at all remember but the best he could recall was that he just wanted a hero who could handle solar power and I guess, this is my theory, he chose Dr.Light cause 1) that's a villain so it would make people questionible about her and 2) her powers were solar/light based but I think it was mostly the first reason cause it worked...the first time they saw her they noticed she was dressed like a villian, Dr.Light, and attacked.

Well I just realized that Dr.Light's use in JLE/I is NOT relavent here cause she that JLE/I was NOT Giffens, it was the guy who was after him that used her as a part of the team (only time Giffen used her was in JLA #1-3 and he used her great) so I guess she's safer than I thought.
Also, I just heard she was in OMAC #1, being viewed on, while in her Black and White costuem...if anyone can get a screenshot to prove it (None of my comic stores have OMAC #1) send it to me or, if it's allowed, post just a screen shot of the panel she's in

Didn't Giffen use her in JLI during "Breakdowns" as well?
The last time she had much to do at all was during her brief Doom Patrol membership during the John Acurdi run. Of course, thanks to John Byrne's revamp that's seemingly out of continuity for the time being.
I always liked Dr. Hoshi, though that yellow costume was terrible. I have a feeling she'll put in an appearance in IC, but I don't expect her to do anything much.

Because Dr. Light has been given new prominence and having the good and evil Doctors Light meet and fight is something most comic writers would be tickled by.

But then continuity-hardon DC would have to think about the fact that Sue and Ralph were on a team with a woman with the costume and name of someone who raped Sue. And showed no discomfort whatsoever.

Well take your pick. There was no discomfort because of:
a.) Sue has been mindwiped!
b.) It yellow fear monster.
c.) Nanites silly!
or
d.) Dr. Light II raped Ralph! And Sue watched!
AND SUE LIKED IT!
