In another installment of Today In History, In 1806, the Holy Roman Empire went out of existence as Emperor Rancis I abdicated.
From what I know about this depending on how you look at it, either it didn't really end or the dissolution was just a formality. On the one hand he merely abdicated the title just so that Napolean Bonaparte wouldn't be able to add that title to his hat. And so the Holy Roman Empire became the Austrian and then Austro-Hungarian Empire continued on as that.
And on the other hand the Empire had already been under a long decline beforehand (and was never really an effective Empire to begin with considering how much autonomy the surrounding Princes had relative to the Emperor) so Francis II desolving it was merely a formality.
