This is a game me and my non-messageboard friends always play. Basically, let's hypothesize where wrestling might be today if something drastic was different in the past.

I'll start off with my favorite question. Anyone else, feel free to ask one.

"What if Owen Hart hadn't dropped Austin on his head at SummerSlam 97?"

Points to ponder-
-Would Austin have been as big a star without his miracle comeback?
-Since much of the booking on Raw after that was to keep Austin active, even when he couldn't wrestle, would the style of Raw commonly called "Crash TV" have ever happened?
-Since Steve Austin wouldn't have needed a year off for surgery, would the likes of Rock or HHH have been given the ball to run with when they did?
-Would Stone Cold still be wrestling today?

Any thoughts?

1. Austin was due to get his push at some point. Fans were pretty much hot for him at Wrestlemania 13. They had turned on Bret Hart and started popping for Steve Austin at that point.

Steve would have wrestled more and not taken time off as he did. But It wouldn't have changed anything. He was gonna be World Champion at Wrestlemania 14 eithor way.

2. "Crash TV" was what Russo named his programming and It started In mid 97 with the WWF RAW. So yes , even without Austin In a ton of TV Spots and what not , the show still would be " Crash TV" because of what the WWF would do with others.

3. HHH would have gotten the Big Push regardless. Austin refused to work with Jeff Jarrett as a top heel thru much of 1999 and even at top form he would have refused to. So HHH would have gotten the " Push " as top heel anyhow.

Rocky wouldn't have gotten to be top face though. They would have stayed with Steve Austin and odds are pushed Rocky as the 2# Face and gave him a Title run at some point In 1999. But he wouldn't be where he Is today had Austin not gotten Injured.

4. The Injury pretty much gave a time clock on Steve's career. He couldn't do half of his old moves with that bad neck. He had more surgey and once that wore off his career was over. So yeah...had that horrible neck Injury not happened...you would be seeing Stone Cold vs someone on RAW or Smackdown at this point.

Problem is, you couldn't book Sting or Goldberg weak. Even WWE fans wouldn't buy that.

Did you see Goldberg's WWE run?

How to book Sting badly?

Watch his heel turn under Russo.

Or build him up as the saviour for a year and then have him get counted down in a bogus 'fast count' in the biggest match of his career and then wonder why the audience deflates.

What if Lesnar never left?

What if Lesnar never left?
He would have beaten Goldberg at Wrestlemania (assuming Goldberg was leaving like he did). He would have signed the biggest contract in WWE history. He also would have been brought to RAW at some point, until Triple H complained and he was sent back to Smackdown! JBL never becomes the top heel because Lesnar already has the spot, and instead becomes a mid-card heel who wouldn't be hated anywhere near as much as he is today. Lesnar works programs with Angle, Undertaker, Guerrerro, and others. He eventually becomes John Cena's archnemesis (ala TripleH/Rock). Lesnar is traded to RAW in exchange for Batista in the latest draft. Right now he is programmed to face Triple H in a "hell in the cell" match at Summerslam. he loses, but rebuilts his monster status and eventually wrestles Batista at the next Wrestlemania.

I've got a couple...
What if the Rock had never left for Hollywood?
What if the Survivor Series 97 screwjob never happened?
What if the nWo (Hogan, basically) had never resurfaced in the WWE?
And, most interesting, what if Triple H and Stephanie McMahon had never gotten involved?
