I just got back form the new Dukes of Hazzard movie, and I had a blast.

Just a note to all the Duke fans, all the little bits from the series are there. The Narrotor is there, they even open with the honest to goodness Waylon Jennings theme, though the Narrator does talk over some of it. Hell, the even got all the callsigns ight.

I won't go in to the plot, not that it'ed spoil anything, as the plot is the same as every other Duke episode ever. The farm/Hazzard County is in trouble from Boss Hogg, and the Duke boys save the day. No, the plot takes a back seat to the actors having a blast being the Dukes. Luckily, they don't try and be the old actors, they pretty much just be themselves, and it works well. There's some more cussing, as I don't recall hearing 'son of a bitch' all that often on the old show, but it all fits well. Heck, the soundtrack was, from what I can recall, composed entirely of AC/DC and Lynard Skynard. But anyway, the movie is pretty much an excuse for the actors to have fun. The Dukes are still the same, Bo is the best driver in the county, Luke is well known to all the ladies, Daisy is not a girl you take lightly, and Jessie is Willie Nelson being Willie Nelson.

A good thing is, while they don't try to be the old show, they respect it. The guys behind this movie obviously used to watch the show, and it shows. There are a couple really good jokes for fans of the old series, and in a really funny spot the guys from Super Troopers make a cameo.

Now, while the Dukes where great, the rest of the cast was okay. Burt as Boss Hogg was good, but we don't see a lot of him. Roscoe was the most different, as they tried to make him more of a tough guy then the goof from the series, but it didn't really hurt as the Dukes still make him look like an idiot

And the main thing, the car stunts, where excellent. I have to give Sean William Scott props as you can tell it's him in a good number of scenes, and he had to have spent a while training cause he drives the hell out of the General. The rest of the stunts where awesome, and I was happy to see zero CGI. It was all good ol' fashion cars being thrown around.

Anyway, this is the most fun I've had at the movies in a while, and I defintiely reccomend checking it out.

Jesus, that guys as bad as our local reviewers. I've no doubt a lot of reviewers will hate it because it has car chases, as a lot of reviewers think that they are better than that, or in other words are pretenious pricks.

...they even open with the honest to goodness Waylon Jennings theme...Are you sure? Everything I've read or seen, including the soundtrack listing, has said that it's a new version by Willie Nelson.

Willie's version kind of sucks. Compared to the original, anyways.

It was kinda neat to hear, but yeah, it's got nothing on Waylan's version.

It's amazing what some people would rather have than money.

Case in point - going to a movie that hails the star of "Jackass" as one of its main characters.

Yeah, that's going to make me want to part with my hard-earned $7.00.

Thanks, but I'll keep the cash.

I saw it Friday night and thought it was pretty good. Was Bo Duke always that stupid, though?

The funniest part of it was WB thinking Super Troopers was a road movie.

I'm not seeing it for the star of "Jackass"... I'm seeing it for Jessica Simpson. And frankly, I can wear earplugs and snooze through the rest.

I saw it yesterday and I thought that it was really good.Johnny and Sean were a great duo and Jessica has never been hotter. The car chases were great and it gave me chills at a couple parts. There were only a few funny parts but it was still a good fast paced fun movie.

Bo & Luke Duke are naive--not stupid. They see the good in people & want to help them.

BOYCOTT THE DUKES OF HAZZARD MOVIE

From Roger Ebert's review:

The movie has one offensive scene, alas, that doesn't belong in a contemporary comedy. Bo and Luke are involved in a mishap that causes their faces to be blackened with soot, and then, wouldn't you know, they drive into an African-American neighborhood, where their car is surrounded by ominous young men who are not amused by blackface, or by the Confederate flag painted on the car. I was hoping maybe the boyz n the hood would carjack the General, which would provide a fresh twist to the story, but no, the scene sinks into the mire of its own despond.

Uhh, right. It was a dumb joke in a very simple action-comedy movie full of dumb jokes. Sheesh, Ebert, quit looking for Art where it was never intended and your blood pressure might settle down.

This was a simple, fun movie that did a great job re-creating the feel and tone of the TV show--which itself was pretty simpleminded fluff, as many people have pointed out. And there's nothing wrong with that! Sure, it's been updated; there are cell phones and e-mail mentioned, and characters say "Holy shit" and "Son of a bitch" a lot.

But overall, if you liked the original series, you'll like this. It's light, harmless fun for a weekend afternoon.

I had no intention of going to see it. I won't even rent it now.

Watch the rerun of Thursday's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart for a perfect commentary of the film by Stephen Colbert. The rerun should run at 9am, 7pm, 10:30pm and 12:30am Central Time on Monday/early Tuesday.

I saw it this afternoon, and I had a good time. I wonder what all of the movie reviewers were expecting from this movie. If they'd seen the original show (which I think is the key question here), they'd know that it succeeded in spite of its ridiculousness. The movie had the car chases, stuff blowing up, and it was pretty funny. Pretty much a faithful, fun updating of the TV show. It's not Shakespeare, so why get upset when the movie isn't either?

Or, it could be that they just didn't like it.

One of my local reviewers just throught the jokes were unfunny, and that it was stupid for Daisy to get mad at people for staring at her when she's wearing he trademarks.

Besides, I sometimes like it when a movie gets a bad review. They're usually a lot more entertaining than good ones. :D

And who can forget Jessica Simpson? You will, if you’re lucky. She fulfills her contractual obligation admirably, meaning she shakes her ass well and does a commendable job filling out a bikini. Just make sure you exit the theater before her god-awful version of “These Boots Are Made for Walking” starts playing during the end credits, or you may find yourself taking the straw from your drink and puncturing your own eardrums in self defense.

Eh, from my minority standpoint, this film RIDICULED heat of the moment, impulsive accusations of racism. It was a fun film.

I hardly think the issue was looking for art.

I enjoyed seeing my college campus, New Orleans, and all the local places in my area. Just for you guys information.... I live like a half mile away from the race track at the end of the movie.

My only complaint is that all the characters were flipped inside out. Boss Hogg and Rosco where the bad asses, while the Dukes were the idiots.

Oh, and it was funny seeing all the locals who got to extras showing up at the theater dressed up in Tuxedos like they were movie stars.
