This week's column has a letter writer noting that when people rush into San Diego to see the Chargers, the money goes up to Stockton, but when people come to Dick's or Rama or other such restaurants, the money stays in town.
Only problem is, Dick's Last Resort is a chain, headquartered in Dallas. While there are plenty of Gaslamp District eateries that appear to be locally-owned, there are also plenty of chain eateries there.
(I am, however, in accord with the general concept that cities underwriting the cost of sports teams is madness, idiocy, and theft.)
