This might be a stupid question but is the main guy from GTA:III the same guy from Vice City (Tommy Vercetti) the reason i ask is because VC is set in the early 80's and 3 is set in the late 90's and the characters look the same age in each game.

Help me settle a disagreement with a friend :D

Nope, the guy from GTA3's name is "Claude" though you don't find that out until his cameo in San Andreas. :D

Aside from that, there's also a number of other reasons.

-Toni Cipriani tells Joey "This guy ain't Italian, but he gets things fixed." Tommy was Italian.

-If Tommy had come back to Liberty, people would have doubtlessly recognized the Harwood Butcher. Cops, the odd passer-by, especially the other gangs. And considering his past with the Forelli's they'd have done *something* about him being there. Would Luigi or any of the others given him work, knowing his past (working for a rival family, then staking out an entire territory for himself)? Not a chance.

-As far as we know, Tommy's empire is still going strong. Though he won't bother answering Rosenberg's calls, anymore. Why would he bother with car races in some backwoods part of San Andreas? Or own that gas station and not build it into something respectable? He did it with everything else.

-That, and Tommy wouldn't have even bothered with Catalina, more than likely. Or if he did, he would have laid some ground rules. Like "Don't even THINK about crossing me."

When did they say his name was Claude?

Well, at one point, Catalina calls Carl thinking she's calling the guy from GTA III and adresses him as 'Claude.'

Talk about Carl man he's such a looser in front of tommy, let's see -

Carl -
Get's his ass bullied by 2 lazy cops
Could'nt rescue his own blood brother from prison
Katalina, a women with attitude owned his ass

Tommy -
No one, no cop ever try's to bully him
He rescued a stranger he had to rob banks with from prison
if Katalina showed him attitude, she would be dead right now, and if Cesar try'd to avenge her death, he would've shot him too.

Tommy > Cj > dude from gta3.

CJ also took on the entire US military stationed in SA, robbed a casino in LV, stole military hardware, regularly, killed said corrupt cops, took on the LC mob and kept an entire city in line.

And he still took crap from everybody. I liked Tommy's attitude better. Tommy would never take a hint of crap from anyone, if they insulted him, he'd insult back and not be subtle about it.

Carl has done some great things, but Tommy is badass.

And Tommy is destined to catch a bullet for all of his wheelings and dealings with his associates and enemies, while CJ at least had a chance to start over and better himself. When one accepts the likely possibility of taking a bullet from people who would kill you, your family, and your dog as a tradeoff for money and business, it really does not come off as badassed. Not to me, anyways.

Doubt it, Tommy's already dealt with major double crossings and likely learned a good deal from it.

But the threat is still there, no matter how he tries to protect himself or how much he learned from his experiences, because he is dealing with people, during and after the events of GTA: Vice City, who will try to kill him if he backstabbes them, if they want what he has, or just because. This is the life he built, and his end is either at the hands of a gun, major arrest, or if he's lucky, old age. CJ at least tried to cut down two of the three possibilities.

Naturally, the flip side however is he won't be able to amass the sheer amount of wealth and power Tony has either. Different people, different priorities. Tony would probably be bored out of his mind any other way.

yeah who's Tony ?

Anyway's, its understood that because Carl is the youngest in the family, 2 members of his family dead, all of his old friends are having a negative 'buster' attitude against him, could be the reasons why he's just not bad ass enough yet to take on a couple of cops.
Whereas, Tommy, this guy is pure negative karma, hell the game begins after Tommy is released from jail, if Cj went to prison, he'd be moved and probably go back to liberty city to live normal life, he himself said it, he 'went' to liberty city to 'to got free from stuff' or something like that, but for Tommy this is life, nothing can stop him, nobody bully's, i'd love to see the look on face of Tennpenny after a minute he touches Vercetti.

Yeah, but if that does happen, he'll just wake up the next morning in the hospital.

Here's anpther question. What do you think will happen in "Liberty City Stories"? Now, here is what I know:

*It's set three years before GTA III

*Because of that, you get to see things where other things were. A good example is there's a bar where Luigi's Club is.

*Swimming is still impossible

*Clothes can be changed freely.
