Besides Joker, Riddler, Scarecrow, Killer Croc, Penguin who is your favorite villians?

Astonishing X-Fan

I'd consider Joker, Two-Face, Penguin, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Freeze, Ras, Riddler, and Scarecrow the big ones. Talia, Croc, Hatter, Black Mask, and characters around that range are close, but not at the iconic status the others are. Harley kind of teeters on the edge of the line.

Anyway, my favorite "lesser" villain is probably Black Mask. At least of late.

Scarface has been my fave since the TAS episode.

Does Harley Quinn count as one of the ones that isn't "big" per se? Because if so, definitely her.

Calendar Man, the version that appears in The Long Halloween and Dark Victory.

Tallyman, he just looks cool.

I always felt that if they could just settle on one version of him Clayface could be a pretty big threat.

Give Batman a foe who not only majorly outclasses him in strength but also has many other sneaky tricks.

Black Mask, his actions in Catwoman actually make me shudder. I also like Mr. MXYZPTLK, because he was stupid, hilarious, and can only leave when you say his name backwards- BUT he can come back in 90 days.

Oh Harley Quinn is my favorite (even my all-time 2nd fave comic book character) I guess after reading her solo series I just don't think of her as a "Batman villian" anymore, hm...

Batman's A-list villains are Joker, Two-Face, Ra's Al Ghul, The Penguin, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Riddler, and the Scarecrow.

I also really like Mr. Zsasz.

Scarface and the Ventriloquist, no doubt. Ah, the glory days of the Wagner/Grant/Breyfogle run! Truly one of the weirdest, funniest, and most inspired character creations in the modern age Batman mythos. One of my favorite stories was when Wesker got a new puppet (I think a frog he called "Hoppy" or something), and Scarface "killed" the puppet in jealous revenge. Anyone remember what series/issue that's from?

Zsasz, but it depends. In the right hands, he's the creepiest villian I've seen in *any* medium (see Last Arkham), but in the wrong hands, he's a thug with a knife (forgot the issue #, but the first 'Tec with Steph as Robin).

Me too, on both counts. I really enjoyed Zsasz in the appearance in Detective Comics confronting Batman and Steph as Robin. Really chilling seeing a killers POV like that.

Catman, at least in the one issue of 'Tec I saw him in by Grant and Breyfogle. I loved the costume, and that he was sort of the opposite of Batman.

Firefly, because he is so out of Batman's element. He can fly, he's armored, and his flamethrower is a damn sight more lethal than a freeze gun.

Corrosive Man, because it's nice to see a villain that the hero can't just punch out.

Clayface III, because of the whole "tragic monster" angle.

And I always liked the idea of Film Freak (modelling his crimes after movie characters), but nothing really memorable was ever done with him. Except for getting stomped into soup by Bane. :)

Actually id rather see all of these villians follow Blockbuster's lead and go to Bludhaven and take on Nightwing to boost his rogues gallery which is pretty minimal (Brutale, Lady Vic, Blockbuster (deceased), Tarantula, Nite-Wing, Double Dare, Mouse, Stallion, Thrilldevil, Torque (deceased) and Shrike)

Bane I would say ended up being a second tier villain. But he wasn't to start out with. He did break Bruce Wayne during his first appearance IIRC.

Hush..I dunno about Hush. He just seems to be around...alot.

I personally won't consider Hush to be a big-time villain until he...y'know...DOES something.

We don't know who he is, since he doesn't seem to be Tommy Elliot anymore.

We don't know what he wants, since his motivations change issue to issue ("I'm mad at Bruce...no, I'm mad at Riddler...no, I love Poison Ivy...").

And we don't know what he's doing to achieve whatever his goals are, since he spends all his time getting into pissing contests with other super villains.

This thread requires a definition of what you consider "big", but I would have to say Batmans greatest foe who isn;t always around is Bane. Technically, he DID beat Batman(altough it was only temporary, and he could not have taken Bruce at full strength).

Guts/Batman

Technically, a fight between two opponents doesn't begin on the battlefield. His brilliant planning and use of other aspects allowed him to defeat Batman.

His being battered was all apart of his plan.

Though it is true that he could not defeat him in combat, totally.

I dunno, I Bane should trade his B list status for a big shiny A. He got pushed to the moon by crippling Batman and the casual Batman fans know him.

That just my opinion.

He did to Batman what Bats normally does to everyone else. Arrange a time and place where he can be victorious.

Mad Hatter and Professor Hugo Strange.
I think they could really do something cool with these characters in the movies. Mad Hatter especially.

PS: Who is Maxie Zeus? In Grant Morrison's Arkham Asylum, he seems really cool, like some kind of psychotic, electrified prophet. But in all the bios I've read of him, he seems like just another generic criminal.

I have a top 5 "Second-Teir Villans".

5: Hush

4: Bane

3: Poison Ivy

2: The Riddler (Pleh, Second-Teir to me)

And my number one "Second-Teir Villan" is...

1: Harley Quinn!

A woman that fell in love with The Joker and STAYS with him gets my vote. And she's hot, natch. Rawr.

There are way too many to choose from...

Zsasz is my absolute favorite, but I also like other Grant/Breyfogle creations such as Stirk and Amygdala. And that Gotham demon, C'Baoth or whatever, he needs to come back to life...

Hugo Strange has almost killed Batman many times. He needs to be moved to the A-List. KGBeast might be outdated, but just call him the Beast. Both companies have many of characters that have the same name, so that wouldn't be a big deal. One of the reasons the Beast rocks? He put Batman on the ground in just three moves. Something that took Deathstroke half a comic book to do. BOO-YAH! Bring back the BEAST! Oh...Robinson's probably gonna have Two-Face kill him in OYL. BOO!

The story is out of continuity because of the Joe Chill bit, but if any writer decides to make the character still a part of Batman's history then I'm sure it will jump back into continuity, just without the Joe Chill part
