Dont get me wrong, Know people like Gordan would hunt him

But honestly would the average citezen really be mad at him. In fact think his stock may go up.

A good percentage would say "Thank God, let's build him a statue!" especially those who were his victims, or related to his victims (which I imagine are about 70% of the populace). Of course, a whole population NEVER agrees on something so I'm sure there would be a strong outcry from those idiots who assume he's just some poor deluded fool who really does need to be in Arkham Asylum. And then there would be those who are really against vigilanteism and see the act of murdering the Joker as the ultimate fear ... what if he goes around and starts killing whoever he wants? Then wouldn't he be the same as the psychos in Arkham?

Of course, most of the criminal underworld assume that Batman kills or does horrible things to bad guys, so I don't see a major change. Of course now that he's no longer an urban legend, I wonder if anyone will start to raise questions in regard to the rumors of what he does to his "victims" ...

I doubt that he would be charged with anything. It's completely see him getting off on self defense in this case. As for all the people in the city are gonna be glad about him ridding them of the madman.

I don't even think the Joker would be a big issue. The prevailing sentiment, among the underworld, average citizens, and law enforcement, would be: 'Batman Kills'. That would change eveything...

No, I would want him dead for all the crimes against Gotham. In fact I would be pissed that it wasn't done sooner

But don't some of the dumber/more deluded/more gullible ones already think that anyway? Especially after the whole "AzBats letting Abattoir fall to his death" thing. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the more territorial ones spread rumors like that to keep the competition away.

I don;t think many people would shed tears for the Joker, but if Batman killed him it would change him and he might not be the same Batman. He has a definite thing about not killing anyone and if he crossed that line I don't think he would be the same.

The reaction among Gotham would be, "What took so long?"

The hardest thing for me to believe with the Batman titles isn't "Why hasn't Bruce Wayne been outed as the Dark Knight", but "Why do they keep putting these psychos back on the street?"

Insanity defense or not, there's no way someone like the Joker would keep getting back out.

I don't think that Gotham would care if he killed the Joker but I think that would put an end to Bruce Wayne as Batman.

The people of Gotham may forgive him. Gordon might forgive him. Tim, Dick, Clark, Diana, Oracle, Selina would all probably forgive him or even say "It's ok." But he would never forgive himself.

I think the first life that Batman would take intentionally with his own hands would be the last time he dons the cape and cowl.

i think batman:year two with the reaper storyline answered this question quite well...

The average citizen would say:
What the hell took so long?

gotham needs a hero who gets himself in trouble so he can kill villians and get off on all charges. maybe a shadow redux with a few personas running around back alleys and the witnesses either die or assume is was batman not letting himself be seen. sooner or later someone would notice the hat and scarf or assume it was batman in his winter clothes.

I didn't even know that the Joker knew Batman and Bruce is the same person (http://www.dccomics.com/comics/?cm=4360).

Gotham CITIZENS wouldn't give one damn, but all the politicians and elected officials...and the rest of the criminals in Gotham would be very scared. I wouldn't be surprised if almost all of Gotham's criminal and corrupt left town the second they heard it.

I agree.

It wouldnt have much impact on Gotham besides much gratitude.

But as far as the criminal, and corrupt are concerned, I would think it would have a HUGE impact on that side of Gotham.

I don't know, they generally aren't psycho-killers...and those that are don't care.
If he wacked Joker and Penguin and Scarecrow, the guys who run Arkham might get upset, but when he starts in on the crime boss types, things would change real fast.

That's where I disagree. Once the higher-ups of the Gotham Crime World know that's Bats has killed one of the "freaks", they won't stay for long. They'd know that if he did kill one of the "freaks" that the mob bosses wouldn't be far behind.

This is Batman we're talking about. If he really wanted Joker dead, do you really think anyone would ever even find the body. I personally think he would look great in a container preserving his lifeless carcass right next to the robin outfit where he wasted Jason. But thats just me.

I think Bruce has enough reminders of Joker's rampages in his head already (not to mention the giant card). He probably wouldn't want that by Jason's robin outfit.

You're probably thinking of something like a trophy. While I understand your reasoning, I doubt Batman would want someone like THE JOKER in his Cave. Sure he's dead, but that smile would still be there. Bruce would drive himself nuts with that thing in there.
