Spoilers.

Im loving the series, picked it up mostly because of lee and jenkins. the second half is looking weak to me but really liking it still. I do have a couple of questions though about the series,

1) this is a flashback story right? i mean im not up to date with batman but i dont think gordon is commisioner anymore, does anyone know when this takes place chronologically?

2) Also i dont mean to sound stupid, but im one of those people that just does not see the underlying message, what causes batman all this turmoil? Is he upset that he could not prevent his parents death? Is he mad at them? I just don't get it, when he says he doesn't cry and that he pretends their on vacation what was that all about? Why is he suffering from the syndrome? Why does he need to be saved, is he self hating?

Anyway if anyone knows, please do tell thanks.

I view this story as a side story. Elseworld-esque.

And all the stuff you mentioned was the result of the drug that the dr. and Harvey made. It releases peoples "Hydes".

Two-Face's intention is to release the drug all over Gotham. Batman is one of the first people to get the drug. And his flashback in #3 is a kind of conversation between Batman and Bruce Wayne is a result of having Harvey introduce the drug into his system.
