Well... the GBA is certainly ending its days, but the GameBoy itself will still get updated in the future. Nintendo has been dropping hints about the next official Gameboy for quite some time now.

I just hope the end of the GBA isn't the end of mainstream 2D games. I don't much like playing 3D games on a small screen.

Funny that you say that, considering I just added a crapload of GBA games to my Amazon wish-list.
I don't think Game Boy will ever go away. Portable gaming, especially *simple* portable gaming, is too in demand, and always will be.
Now, the market might be joined by other companies, but handhelds will always be around.

i'll buy a gameboy micro anyday. i find it more convinient to use a gaming system as a key chain rather than have a big bulge in my pocket :D

I doubt the GB is going away anytime soon. It's a system that been selling like hot cakes for about 16 years now. And right now IMO it's the system that offers the most original and innovative games, and Sony and their "Port System Portable" certainly won't dethrone Nintendo as the king of handheld moutain.

I have no interest in a PSP. I want one thing out of a portable gaming system…games. That's it! No web browser or mp3 player or movies or whatever the hell else they try to stuff in there.
Nintendo has always believed in games first and since the GBA is a portable GAME system I think I'll stick with it.

The GBA may be on it's last stand, but it does have Gunstar Super Heroes. You can't say it's not going out without some sort of bang.

Here you go:
Revealed for the first time at Nintendo's pre-E3 press conference, the Game Boy Micro is the smallest and sleekest Game Boy product Nintendo has ever created. If you thought the Game Boy Advance SP was compact and portable, you ain't seen nothin' yet.
Game Boy Micro is thinner than a cell phone and small enough to fit in the tightest pocket your wardrobe has to offer. Recently revealed facts include:
* Game Boy Micro measures a mere four inches wide, two inches tall and 0.7 inches deep, allowing it to sit comfortably alongside today’s hippest technological gadgets.
* It weighs an astonishing 2.8 ounces, yet Game Boy Micro has the same processing power and plays the same games as Game Boy Advance SP models.
* A removable face plate gives you the option to buy replacements to customize the look of your system with new colors and designs.
* Game Boy Micro's two-inch backlit screen shines with incredible power, rendering games in startling clarity with fantastic colors on the best Game Boy screen ever. For the first time, you can adjust the brightness of the screen to adapt to indoor lights or outdoor sunshine.
Game Boy Micro will be released this fall. Click here to read even more details about Game Boy Micro from Nintendo's official press release.

I so want one. The idea is friggin awesome.
As much as I don't think gameboys are going anywhere I think with PSP offering mp3's and movies they are going to get a run for their money.

Seeing as how most of the people I know use the PSP more as a MP3/DVD player than a console - We might actually see higher hardware sales for the PSP, but higher software sales for the DS.

I'm hoping they spend a few years to really get something amazing out; the DS should be able to hold us over until at least 2007, probably 2008...

The DS itself, I think, is pretty damn cool. Sure, it's only got N64 power, but on a screen that small, that's more than enough.
It's too big, though. I'd still rather have the GBA SP or the Micro, because you can't slip a DS into your pocket. That's what it really boils down to.

I have a GBA SP and a PSP, the graphics are of course no comparison, the screen size is a huge difference, and aside from Lumines, the PSP is a much more "action" based system. But I will not dump my GBA, I play poker and Sonic and that's about it, but for that it is excellent and the battery life is incredible.

If I can comfortably get my hands around the Micro, I'm probably going to get it. If I can't hold it comfortably, I'll probably end up getting the SP sometime in the future.
I do wish I had a PSP, but not for the games, more for the general functionality. Like a cheap version of those expensive portable Media Center things.
