The boys who brought you FORMERLY KNOWN AS THE JUSTICE LEAGUE tackle Marvel's dysfunctional non-team.

The Hulk, Namor, Dr. Strange and the Silver Surfer get back together to duke it out with Dormammu and Umar -- and each other!

Your thoughts!

I liked it.

To keep this Hulk-centric, I liked that they made Banner funny. Maybe I haven't read enough Hulk comics, but I'm not used to seeing Bruce cracking wise and I thought it made for some nice moments.

Yeah, I definitely liked Banner. Everyone was a little out of character - these guys are known for being deadly serious - but I thought Banner's sense of humour worked the best, like he was a guy who'd just had enough in life and was through taking crap. Plus, I loved that panel where you first see Bruce's eyes - Maguire really nailed the emotion there.

I think I'm going to go read it for a third time.

I wasn't sure where this would go as there's a thread on the Marvel Universe board about The Defenders.

To keep this Hulk-centric, I enjoyed Giffen and co. take on Banner. I think he had the best lines in the entire comic.

"Did you ever actually find Nemo or are you still looking?"

This was the first Defenders book I've read and it was pretty ok. I found it the tension between Namor and Banner kinda amusing and it was a fun read all round. I'll stick around for the other issues.

It was ok, some moments made me smile, but overall it wasn't exactly what I want to see Hulk in.
However, kudos to the creative team for a well-made book.
I hope someday Marvel decides to make a Defenders book that isn't all about jokes.

"The Order"?

For the record, I liked The Order. It isn't being mentioned in Giffen's Defenders but it doesn't need to be.

I really enjoyed it too. Was hoping for a bit more of a clash between them and EVERYONE else, but the buildup was great.

Not used to seeing Bruce crack wise? I take it you missed PAD's entire run on the series, then. ;)

I loved this book! Enjoyed every minute of reading it. The dialogue and pacing were perfect for this kind of story. The Defenders are a team that lends itself easily to humor. Why? Because its made up of some of Marvel's heaviest hitters, and they all hate each other (or at the very least loathe working together). Great stuff.

I am so glad they're focusing this book on the core members (i could care less about the rest) and having Bruce turn into the old school "Hulk Smash" Hulk. I can't wait to see him wreck shop next issue.

Also, i thought the art was amazing. The pencils are active and fluid, and the coloring really brings it to life.

Yeah, but more often than not, that was Hulk cracking wise, not Bruce.

Gotta say I loved this comic.
All the characters I have just enough interest to want to read but not enough to buy solo series.
As for the rest of the team, I'd like to see them too, but I agree the focus HAS to remain on these four.

Finally, I liked Bruce Banner more then I think I ever had and the "finding nemo" comment is the single best line I've read this year.

If #2 comments are welcome,I gotta say I like the Umar running gag in that issue.
Maybe Bruce wouldn't have it so bad if they lose, eh? ;)

That should SO be the book's tagline. Beats the hell out of "Earth's Mightiest Heroes". :D

It's not as snappy as "Justice, Like Lightning" though :p

Maybe not, but you have to admit, it is more on the nose. ;)
