While I still prefer having the actual feel of the books in my hand, I'll still snag this for them in color. And continue grabbing the Essential X-Men releases for the nostalgic feel of paper. Though it looks like I may need to get my DVD Rom drive repaired by October/November. :D

Wow! Marvel finally get wise to the fact that pirated scans are costing them a fortune?
What are we talking here? Full runs of the entire back catalogue of ALL the core X-Books?

It says 480 issues. So I assume it will just be 'Uncanny X-Men' and it's annuals. Similar to what they did for Spider-Man and Fantastic Four. Which will kinda suck for the heavy crossover years. But I'm sure that if this sells, we'll get an X-Men version, and probably more.

Man, I need to get me a DVD-Rom drive. I want the FF one as well - and I hope they follow with an Avengers set.
Days and days of fun.

Eh...I prefer an actual comic book so much more than these, but I will get them anyway, just for the deal.

The only thing that would make me buy this is if Stan Lee narrated all 480 issues...

Wow... I might have to get them just for the 60's issues..
I can't believe there's an Amazing Spider-Man AND a FF one out and i haven't bought either.
Watch- i'll buy them, and then they won't work w/ Mac OSX.4... such is the life of a diehard Mac user...

Well, okay you could get all of this off a Bit Torrent site, or even off Ebay for a fraction of the price. There is this minor detail that it's illegal to do so, but...
Seriously I don't know why they didn't do it sooner.
I hope that the 30 odd issues of reprints aren't included in that total...

Almost certain I will too. Although I shall no doubt be skipping the first 30-40 issues.
Nobody should be forced to read those twice!

I bought the FF, and have not read much of it. I keep wanting to hold the issue in my hand, that plus that have tangible copies of over 3/4 of it. Maybe its better with a laptop?

I bought the 40 Years of Amazing Spider-Man DVD ROM and I love it. I'm still one of its more vocal advocates.
One of the biggest reasons I enjoy it is because Spider-Man's greatest adventures have been in that one title. With the X-Men, however, this is not the case. The X-Men have had WAY more peripheral titles than Spider-Man and more important peripheral titles, at that. Although it's still a great deal, I think you're missing out a little bit if you only collect that one series (Uncanny).

THIS....makes me very happy. I would pay a lot of money for this. Hopefully it's ALL the books and not just Uncanny. If its just Uncanny...
I'd like the Giant Sized books and Annual shots in here too.

Read the thread. It's not remotely possible it includes all the books. All the x-books would take up about 4 of these things.
480 issues
Uncanny X-Men 1-66
Uncanny X-Men 94-462 (guessing)
Uncanny X-Men Annuals 3-18, '95, '96, '97, 1998, '99, 2000, 2001
Giant-Size X-Men 1
That's a total of 450 books (if my math's correct).
So that leaves 30 issues. My guess is either the crossover issues from Mutant Massacre, X-tinction Agenda, etc. Or mini like Wolverine, Kitty Pryde and Wolverine, X-Men/Alpha Flight, etc. Or Maybe it will include some of the Classic X-Men back ups.
There is absolutely no way this includes X-Men 1-171, let alone X-Factor 1-149, Excalibur 1-125, New Mutants 1-100, X-Force 1-129, Wolverine 1-180, Mutant X 1-32, X-Man 1-75, Generation X 1-75, Cable 1-107, Deadpool 1-69, Mystique 1-24, Emma Frost 1-18, Gambit 1-25, Ultiamte X-Men 1-61, X-Treme X-Men 1-46, Astonishing X-Men 1-11, Exiles 1-66, Bishop 1-16.
That's 1308 comics right there not even including all the annuals, one shots, and -1 issues. Not including all of the short run ongoings like Nightcralwer, Jubilee, NYX. Not including the mini series over the years (which probably counts for about 300 issues).
Personally I'll pass on this whole thing and wait for Essential Uncanny X-Men Vol. 2 and 3. I would like a Hulk CD though. Captain America and Iron Man too. I've never read those series much.

I"m glad these are coming out for those who like them. I'd rather they kept releasing the TPB's of Marvel Masterworks through Barnes & Noble though (I highly doubt they will). I much prefer actually holding my comic books than viewing them on a screen.

There's nothing sad about that at all. Spider-man should be a key factor in everything you do!

Whats scary Is..I said something like this would happen 2 or 3 years ago on the Marvel board. That comics going on DVD or DVD Rom's was the future. I pictured long running series being priced on there for fans. I think some laughed at me. But man..I need to start playing the Lottery ! :)

Wow, that sounds pretty cool!
I think that I will have to buy that when it comes out. I agree that in many ways holding the actual comic in your hands can be a much more enjoyable experience, but if the only way to do that is to pay several thousand dollars for the original, full run of back issues or read B&W "Essential" reprints, this sounds like a great option.
By the way, are the FF and Spiderman DVDs that someone mentioned still available? I would not mind getting copies of those either!
awesome! I have the spidey and the ff one and to have such a collection of comics in such a small space is teh sweet!

Man, I'll get it, but I too prefer the feel of the book in my hands. I do own all the Wolverine series (in the cedar chest at the foot of my bed) and a fair number of the Xmen series, but it would be nice to be able to pop in a disc when one wants to refresh their mind on a matter.
Will we be able to copy pictures from the disc?????? That would be TOO COOL!!! What quallity of resolution can I expect? Help me, computer geeks among us. :)

As far as I know, there is no DVD-Rom version of the Spider-Man set. It's the first one they did, and they did it as 11 CD-Roms instead. If they re-issue it in the future, maybe that will change. :)

I'm completely techno illiterate, so could someone explain what (if any) is the difference between a DVD and a DVD ROM? If I buy this, can I shove it in my DVD players and it will work?
It probably looks like a really dumb question, but I don't want to fork out cash for this and then find out I don't have the right equipment.

They are re-releasing the Spider-man dc to match the F4 and eventually the X-men dvdr-om versions.
This set will feature the annuals and will higher qualiy on earlier issues when availible, so I'd wait for that set!
Apparently Avengers and Hulk dvd-roms are also being worked on!

"The latest instant comic collection from Graphic Imaging Technology was released just about the time of the Fantastic Four movie. Enjoy the film? Why not fork over some more bucks and get every single FF adventure from 1961 to December, 2004? That’s 550 comics, 20,000 pages, on one very friendly package.
I thought the 11 CD-Rom set featuring 40 years of Spider-Man was good, even though the original issues were beat-up, but this goes one better.
In fact, the Spider-Man set will be augmented with all the Spider-Man annuals, cleaned up, with new copies substituted for beat-up ones when available, and put on a single DVD and released for Christmas.
Within five years, if everything goes as planned, Graphic Imaging Technology will release a good chunk of the Marvel library, each on a single DVD. An entire collection of thousands of comics: every X-Men, Avengers, Hulk and any other significant Marvel comic will be contained on a pile of DVDs shorter than a paperback book."
