Read here (http://www.newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=38552).

Truely an underappreciated Bat artist. I really liked his work.

My condolences to his family.

Truly sad news. If I think about Batman, Aparo's style is the one I imagine. Hopefully DC will start reprinting some of his classic Brave and Bolds.

I will never look upon his kind again."

Aparo was one of the class acts of DC. He, alongside Neal Adams, redefined Batman's look in the '70s. If DC doesn't start reprinting his best work(the way they did with Adams' Batman and Green Lantern/Green Arrow), they're fools.

Sad to hear one of THE (and my personal favorite) classic Batman artists has passed away this morning. I thought he made Batman: Knightfall stand out, as well as Batman: Death in the Family.

He will be missed. :(

When future Batman artists take up illustration of the Dark Knight, Jim Aparo's work is a reference that they must go to early and often.

One of the things I liked most about Jim Aparo's illustration work on BATMAN was his knack for drawing action/fighting scenes. To me, Aparo's work on the fight scenes in BATMAN were the most realistic ever to be depicted in that title. In most BATMAN fight scenes, the action is difficult to follow. In Aparo's illustrations, you could clearly visualize every move as if you were on the scene watching the fights unfold.

I was never a big fan of his but the first Batman comic I bought had his art. Sorry to see him go.

I grew up with Jim doing detective comics in the 90s. Whenever I have fond memories of batman comics growing up, I always think of Jim's run. I'm sad to see him go. God bless, Jim. You WILL be missed.

A truly appreciative fan

I started getting into Batman during his run.

He'll live on with fans through his great work.

Jim Aparo's was the first rendition of Batman I ever saw in the comics. His stye is, to this day, what I measure all the Bat-artists by. I had always hoped to meet him someday at a con or something.

Oh man, just imagine if DC had a "Visionaries" TPB line.

The Jim Aparo volume sure would be a good-lookin' book, wouldn't it?

RIP. :(

It's interesting to note how many people cite Jim Aparo as being their "first" Batman artist. Aparo was the first comic book artist I was ever familiar with. He had amazing talent and style, and was the single greatest torch-bearer to Neal Adams' legacy. To this day, I consider Mr. Aparo (along with Dennis O'Neil and Neal Adams) to be one of the visionaries who shaped my perception of the Batman character and cemented my love of comics.

RIP James Aparo. You will be missed. :( Condolences to friends and family.

I don't believe it. I remember his artwork in Death In the Family and Knightfall. I didn't even know he was ill. :(

His contribution to the Batman legend cannot be overestimated.

As a kid, i remember picking up Bat-titles and looking for his name because I knew the art would be excellent. There were three artists that I always looked for....Aparo...Neal Adams...and JL Garcia Lopez. These three always delivered a fluidity and realism that gave me a sense of ...hey...if Batman were real...this is how he would look and move and fight....

Thanks, Jim for making the Batman real....you touched the hearts of kids like me...what better legacy?

Jim Aparo will certainly be missed.

His version of Batman certainly ranks as one of the best. His Batman was comfortable in light and in the shadows. A dark detective without being an ass

He certainly defined The BRAVE & The BOLD
