View Full Version : best villain entrance

when you see a villain for the first time, and you know you are screwed.

darkseid: when he appeared in the 90s superman cartoon for the first time, he scared the shit out of me. with the fire and deep voice, he looked like the devil.

chase young: appearing out of nowhere with his army of big cats. cool.

yami marik: when he came out during the battle city finals, i knew this guy was raw evil.

any more?

Not exactly an "Oh Crap" moment as a "Damn, I Want His Agent's Number" Type:

Magus, from Chrono Trigger. That was a damn cool appearance and a suitable speech...

...of course, with New Game plus, what immediately follows the speech is pure ownage by the Crono Gang.

But Lavos counts (unless you're New Game Plus). First time you face him, he wipes the floor with your entire party.Crono also dies

The four Shadaloo Kings in the SF2 movie. Not only did it parallel the Empire's entrance in Return of the Jedi, but with the atmosphere and the music combined with their collective scowls, you just knew these are guys you don't fuck with. It was a nice touch with the scientists running away in an "oh shit!" moment when Bison was marching down the hallway towards his easy chair.

Although not too menacing, when Ra's al Ghul comes out of the shadows of the Batcave and meets Batman in B:TAS, that's a cool moment.

Naraku.
Why?
Because in his entrance(Naraku and Sesshoumaru join Forces), you look at him and think: He is a very weak youkai and no represent any danger.
But you are WRONG!
And you learn that appearance can be deceive.

Hannibal Lector in Red Dragon. I just love that scene.

*Will Graham his walking torwards Lectors cell, he sits down on a chair infront of it. Lector is lying on his back and then he starts to talk*
Lector: That´s the same atrocious aftershave you wore in court.

In the movie and the book this scene always sends those nerdish chills through my spine.

Emporer Palpatine's arrival on the 2nd deathstar for the first time. the music got heavy and like the welcoming commity was huge. there was just an aura of "this is the guy VADER calls master"

the beyonder. first time we see him he wipes away a galaxy, creates a planet and smacks down galactus.

not really an entrance...but...an appearance...Akuma making his background cameo in Street Fighter 2 V. Dunno what he was doing there. one moment he is standing around. next moment drinking booze wit some chick...

Another fudge on the "first appearance" rule, but I feel this is worth not only that, but resurrecting a thread (even a thread with some of my 2005 posts) for:

Maestro Delphine, Last Exile.

We have seen her before. We've seen just enough of her in her little luxurious flying Guild-house to see how influential, uncaring, and sadistic she is. It's all about entertainment value for her. Human lives aren't even secondary so much as somewhere in the back. And, unfortunately, she has the clout to play to her whims to the fullest extent.

Then, late in the series, she shows up in person at the coronation of the new empress in a huge, magnificent flying machine in the sky. This is immediately followed by a veritable carpet bombing of red rose petals, allll over the assembled crowd. Not everybody gets it - many people think it's an elaborate sign of goodwill - but our favorite XO understands: It's a declaration of war.

Now, for most people, that would be good enough. Ms. Delphine, however, is not the type to settle for "good enough." Let's step back a bit and look at two other characters, for the uninitiated: Lord Dio and Alex Row.

Dio is another Guild member, Delphine's brother, and an extremely skilled Vanship pilot... but he's kind of out of touch with reality. While not quite so bad as his sister, he doesn't think anything of putting lives in danger for his own amusement. While he treats the subject of his sister with just a little more restraint, the only time he really gets ruffled is when someone infringes on his Dio-centric world and refuses to play his games. (His attendant and navigator, Luciola, doesn't even bother trying to control him so much as occasionally make sure he doesn't get himself killed.)

Alex is a brilliant airship commander, not that he seems to care much about it. Or about anything. It's rare for him to show any emotion, or even to talk outside of giving orders, bar a few dry remarks when he feels like it or extenuating circumstances. A relatively recent battle with an ex-ally of his, in which he was taking on about five other airships at once with the Silvana, served to change his expression from perpetual disinterest to something more like depression.

Then Maestro Delphine shows up, begins her rose-petal shower, and both of them freak out. To the best of my memory, the scenes go as follows:

Aboard Dio's vanship, where Dio is having fun ad-libbing dangerous maneuvers without telling anyone else, when a rose petal hits his helmet -
Dio: [eyes, if anything, go even wider] AUUUUUUUUGGHH!
Luciola: ?
Dio: SHE'S HERE! SHE'S HERE! DELPHINE HAS COME FOR ME!
Luciola: Sir, please calm down!
Dio: LET'S RUN AWAY! LET'S RUN AWAY! LET'S RUN AWAY!
(After almost losing control for a while, he flies back to the Silvana. Now.)

And aboard the Silvana, Alex receives a slightly confused report of a cloud of rose petals outside the ship...
Alex: Rose petals... [snaps head up, eyes wide] FLANK SPEED! ALL HANDS TO BATTLE STATIONS!
(He then tries to give the order to shoot the whole thing down, despite there being quite a few people down beneath it, not least the woman who is both his old XO and the new empress. One of his officers barely manages to talk him down, leaving him growling and squeezing the voice pipe so hard it almost looks like he could break it.)

Bad news.

was that just before the obi/vader duel in a new hope? Why, yes so it was. :)

It was more because of the shock value than anything else. It was one thing when Vegeta killed bad guys with ease, but these were just normal people out to see the most famous tournament in the world.

I wouldn't have been impressed if he destroys a random planet to prove that he's back to bad, but he took out innocent people, it was jarring.
