View Full Version : Front page trouble?

Is anyone else having trouble accessing the main CBR page. I get to the forums with no problem, but I haven't been able to get the front page to load so I can check out Augie's coverage and the photo Parade for Day 3.

It does seem to be down at this time. It could be that CBR is getting a lot of traffic due to SDCC.

The last 14 hours or so have been VERY rough.

Around 3:00 in the morning the server that hosts the CBR main site started crashing randomly. I'd restart it, it would stay up for 10 minutes or so, then shut itself down again for no apparent reason. I called the data center, they couldn't figure anything out, so after having that happen about five times I finally decided it was time to get some sleep, then wake up at 7:45 to pack up and rush up to Los Angeles to see what was going on.

After 2.5 hours of sleep I woke up, bid adieu to Augie, Dave and Rob down in San Diego and got to Los Angeles in near record time. Picked up my tech bag and headed down to the data center. Once I got the CBR server out of the rack I saw that the fan in the power supply for the server was not spinning. The power supply worked, but the fan didn't. Suddenly it made sense-- the power supply was overheating and turning itself off to protech the computer. Cool, easy enough to fix.

Went and picked up a new power supply and an hour later was back in the data center. Installed it and everything was fine.

Later in the afternoon I was messing with the config files on the CBR Ad server (different machine) and decided to optimize the config files since it's a new server and I haven't had a chance to really mess intsensely with it. Somehow in doing that I messed up the CBR main server, which caused an additional 2 hour outage this afternoon. Not sure exactly what I did, but I'm quite certain it was due to fatigue. Once we got that fixed up (I say we because it really was all Mark's doing), everything started working fine again.

So, needless to say I'm going to go take a much deserved nap right now and not touch things for a while. Clearly I'm dangerous!

Thanks to everyone for their patience and I'm hoping this is the last of the craziness.

Hate to be a pest, but as you can see I'm still here on the boards, but I still am unable to access the main page.

Yes I checked everything on my end.

It's not you, the front page's down; I got here using the direct URL to the forums...

I'm having some serious trouble getting the site to load, sometimes it does and other times it times out or can't be found or it takes forever to load. the rss feeds which is what I usually use to access the site aren't working very well at all, very slowly. I hope things get back online it can be a real pain working on a server with tons of visitors bitching about it being down.

Good luck getting this fixed Jonah. I guess with SDCC Its just so much on here. Or Wanda has decided to make CBR non-existant! ;)

Things must not be going well, now I connect to the page but it's a page for some PHPads and asks for password and ID.

Don't know what that's all about.

I just read your comic brief and wanted to say thank you again to you and your entire staff for CBR.

An immense ammount of work, and it's appreciated.
