Even the stupid ones. I really wish Nintendo would put out something and end this rampant speculation.

I don't know why people are so confused. We know it will play GC, N64, SNES and NES games. So its going to be somewhat familiar.

Its not like we'll be playing with our feet or somesuch nonsense.

And of course there's also the distinct possibility that they'll simply sell *multiple* types of controllers.

There's probably be a very ordinary looking one that's nearly identical to the GC controller for those that want to play old games, or that want to play the more conventional new games.

There'll also be some wierd concept-y controller for some of the newer, weirder games. Or maybe multiple different wierd controllers. I don't know.

I doubt that. It doesn't seem like a very good business plan. Customers don't want to buy new hardware for every game they want to play.

Damnit! Just revive the SNES controller, and give it some extra bttons (Like at the back, not like the 9 button vierson of NES controller)

I mean, the SNES controller was perfect.. (Besides the PS controller)

Eh, I'm not so hot on the SNES controller anymore. Everytime I hook up my SNES, it takes me a while to readjust myself. It feels so outdated.

I much prefer the GC controller. It feels so natural in my hands.

^^^no. What they need to do is copy the new xbox contoller, nintendo it up, make it wireless, and add a built in gyroscope, rumble pack, and memory card. That, my friends, would be perfect.

Think about it. Not only does it has the raw gameplay of the xbox controller and cool features, but it increases portability 10 fold. You could have Lan parties and all you would need to bring is your controller. Everyone connects wirelessly to a Revoulution and everyones has thier own memory. So say your playing multiplayer Gauntlet Legends, everyone could bring their own character in their controller.

These days if there’s even the tinest smidgen of new information about the Revolution controller there’s usually a storm of controversy over whether or not it’s legit. However, this time the information comes from the mouth of Nintendo president Saturo Iwata himself. He spoke to the UK paper ‘The Guardian’ last week about Nintendo’s new console and it’s revolutionary controller. Nothing too informative but it does reveal what sort of controller they’re hoping to create. Reggie says that “there are too many buttons and sticks on controllers for novice players, which is likely to discourage them from ever playing games at all”. Apparently he wants the Revolution’s controller to be accessible to everyone and he really wants people to “feel like they want to touch and play with it”. Luckily that last comment is in context because otherwise I’d be giggling.
This does not sound good. Nintendo shouldnt be focusing on attracting new gamers. They should be trying to take them back from Sony and Microsoft. And they are not going to do it by subtracting.

Nintendo always does what it wants, though, not what seems like sound business.

And, frankly, since they're the only company that's making a profit right now (the other two are taking losses) I don't think any of us are in a position to say what Nintendo "should do". They seem to know what to do just fine. It isn't like they're hurting for money.

I'm willing to bet that the Revolution, just like the Gamecube, will cost less to assemble than to sell. Every unit will produce a profit. That's more than what Microsoft and Sony can say.

Im not saying they arent going to make their money, im just saying they'll do it at the expense of their fans.

I would say there are 4 types of gamers.
Potential -people who dont play games but have the money to buy them. This is one of the hardest groups to crack, because they arent interested.
Swing -Id say this is the market that Sony and Microsoft try to capture. The people who will buy only one or two systems and they will pick the ones they think is the best.
Hardcore -These people will buy all three systems. So there is no need to really market to them directly.
Fanboy -These are the people who have made up their mind a year before the product has been announced. :D It takes something radical to shake these guys. Nintendo dominates here.

If nintendo ignores the swing and goes for the potential they will still make money off of the fanboys, but the fanboys will suffer. Although the potential is the largest group, the swing is where the money is and innovations used to attract them will keep the fanboys loyal.

Well thats just my take on it anyway. :p

Well I think Nintendo gets quite a few swing and potentials just from familiarity.

If you have someone thats not only never played a video game but doesn't have a clue who makes the systems or games, there's still a good chance they've heard of Mario.

Much like Superman, you don't have to buy comics to know who he is.

I've found every X-box controller I've used to be bad. Everything about your lan party can be already done with a wavebird, except for the memory aspect.

I'm not too crazy about rumble either, wavebird doesn't have rumble and I find I don't miss it a bit.

they need a fusion of the snes and the gc controller, but the fact that they are taking a simplistic aproach worries me.

Why would they want to make good non-Nintendo games? Those are the games that they sell the most of. That's thier big money-maker. Yes, the "kiddie" games are what brings in the cash.

There's no incentive to change that, if that's where the income is.

No one is saying to stop making Mario and Starfox. In fact I love the "kid games" (although not starfox :D ). I just think they should expand their selection of games. If they get more third-party games made it will attract a wider market.
