Looks like Singer/Vaughan run will probably be Ultimate Phoenix/Ultimate Dark Phoenix. Also it sounds like he will be back after the Singer arc.

So they announce the Peter Panning of the Ultimate characters in advance.

Guess *that's* a switch.

One of my least, least favorite things about long-running series (and the long-established characters who inhabit them) is the fact that time passes...but no one ages. Not really. Or, like Kitty Pryde, they pop back and forth like doohickeys at a quantum level. So saying--right up front--that characters won't age but that somehow they'll "grow" rumbles my nut.

Planning for the "future generations" who'll "discover" these books? Oh, puh-lease. Sounds like "we like stasis" to this old bird.

Or a bit of carte blanche for readers on a budget: Are you saying, Marvel people, that I can walk away from Ultimate X-Men, say, right now, come back five years down the pike, and not have missed a thing?

(C'mon--assuming that these books'll go that long--the same herd of Ultimate X-Teens twenty years from now? Paging Archie and Jughead....)

I agree. It seems like they're setting themselves up for stagnation, which can only get real boring real quickly. Why are they so afraid to let comic charcters evolve?

You would think that the Ultimate characters would follow a more realistic aging process, not that I think they should age with each year the series runs but I think it should be more than 616.

Yay!!!
Lastly, Quesada promised there would never be a crossover between the Ultimate and 616 universes. "I'd rather close shop on one of the universes than have them cross over," he said.

For once, I couldn't be happier with a decision Quesada made.

Agreed. I was pretty sure it would never happen. But it's nice to know for sure it won't as long as Quesada is in charge. Can't wait for the final once and for all answer to Colossus' sexuality, Singer's run, and eventually Ultimate Pocky. Now bring back Beast, darn it! Yay.

As for the aging process? I'd rather they take this slow method from the beginning. Especially considering having to tweak ages over the years in 616 has led to a whole slew of problems. I'm fine with characters staying more ore less the same age for years at a time. That's what we have in 616 now anyway. :)

The aging stuff was brought up a while ago, so there's no surprise there.

Not too impressed with much of anything else revealed about the Ultimate stuff. Except for Ultimate Extinction. The preview page is really cool. And I also don't want to see Singer doing much with the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix... that's something I'd like to see from Vaughan.

Vaughan is supposed to be lending writing assistance to Singer for his run, or at least the first story arc. So I'm sure it will remain a quality book when Vaughan's not totally in charge. :)

I know he is, but I was just saying that it's something I'd like to see him tackle on his own, not with Singer on board with Vaughan only assisting him. There's no doubt it will remain a quality book.
