Because I, y'know, like it. The writing and the art. I also like Spidey.
I just figured that my opinions and reading habits are worthy of their own thread because they're like, SO awesome. And important.

I wonder: is this a swipe at me and my thread? Do you think my opinions are unimportant?
That may be, and that's your opinion. But that's what this place exists for. It's a place to discuss IDEAS. And OPINIONS.
Anyway, it could be that I'm wayyy too sensitive. In which case, thanks for representing the other side of the discussion.
I'm glad you like USM. I want to like it enough to continue buying it. Mark Bagley may be one of the best storytellers and draftsmen in comics history. I love his art. And Bendis is a hell of a writer. But I just don't think they're hitting with all cylinders, and so I have to vote with my wallet.
Jeph Loeb once gave this advice on the old DC Message Boards. And I agree completely. The ONLY way the companies will stop making inferior product they know you will buy is if you STOP BUYING IT. That's the only way we can be heard. If you just say "hey, this book stinks," but keep buying it, you're doing nothing and won't be taken seriously. If, on the other hand, you say "I don't like this book enough to keep paying for it," you will be heard.
So that's what I've decided to do. Will it matter in the long run? I don't know. But I do know that I can now add a title that's much better to my pull list (Brubaker's tremendously-amazing Captain America) instead of forfeiting reading that better title while buying an inferior one.

I doubt it's an attack at you. I think he is just a fan trying to defend his magazine....

I am also a fan of USM I dont see a real problem with any of the story plots.
Most of the people who don't like claim to not like it because it isn't staying true to Spiderman. They say he is a wimp or that his villians are just stupid. (the Hobgoblin) But they forget that the Ultimate universe is supposed to be differant.
I thoght the idea to make Harry the Hobgoblin was a good idea. And in Ultimte Peter is just starting out so of course he is a little inexperienced and may come off as a wimp.
Given the story arcs are sometimes dragged a little too long only the last two issues of the Hobgoblin saga were really good. But if Marvel decides to change this USM I owuld end up rating being between a 8 or 9/10

I wnat ot like USM because itīs Spider-man and I want to love any comic heīs in but it just bores me nowadays. I donīt know why though. At first I loved it. The supporting cast was great, finally an Aunt May and Gwen Stacy that I can like I thought. The dialouge was good. And the art was excellent.
But around the Geldoff storyline I started losing intrest and it just bore me all around. But I donīt know why.

Never fear, whomever dropped USM. I added it this month and bought the last 10 back issues.

I had a subscription to USM for a little while b/c it came free with something else... I thought it was ho-hum... I really hate Bagleys spider-man tho, so that didn't help... Glad you like it tho. :)

See, I have fewer problems with the actual stories than with how they're told. I do not, however, feel that Bendis's take on Spidey/Peter is bad. In fact, I think it's very good, and I love the Ultimate Spidey universe. It's the only Ultimate title I consider worth reading. Until recently.

I don't think Harry as HG is a problem. Rehasing an ill-conceived concept, i.e., the mutant-Goblin, is a big problem and a terrible idea. They could have just had Harry find a glider and an Oz derivative that offers super-strength. He could've then designed a mask and a look for himself (inspired by his father's transformation) and become Hobgoblin. That would've been new but also old. Which I think USM should do more often. And I agree, Peter is by no means a wimp. I consider him to be the greatest hero of the Ultimate Marvel Universe. That title would go to Cap, but Ultimate Cap is a pale shadow of the original.
Given the story arcs are sometimes dragged a little too long only the last two issues of the Hobgoblin saga were really good. But if Marvel decides to change this USM I owuld end up rating being between a 8 or 9/10
I think they tend to drag way too long. This is because Marvel is more interested in trades than in regular monthly comics. They're also more interested in mining their characters for marketing purposes. I assure you, very few people at Marvel care about good stories or the rich legacy of the Marvel universe. Look no further than the organic webshooters and New Avengers to see this. It's pathetic, and worse than when Jemas was there. This is a man who flat out admitted that comic books were only useful as property potentials.
As long as this continues to be Marvel's outlook, we'll see them slink back down into the goddamned dark ages of the '90s. The best-written title at Marvel is currently Captain America, and I'm just waiting until Marvel does something to piss Brubaker off like they did with Waid when he helmed Cap. Then they'll lose him and their best title.

I loved the book until around the Hollywood arc. After that, I bought it out of habit until the end of the Hobgoblin story.
I think the book lost a lot of steam over the past few years, and I wasn't enjoying it enough to keep buying it, which is surprising since USM was once my favorite book.

this is exactly how i feel
i wanted to switch to trade but somehow still picked up the 'Warriors" issue.. might stay till the end of the arc
i suspect this is because marvel is making bendis write everything these days...

^ one of the reasons i like usm. didn't know they never meant to age him but now that i know i'm happy. i like teenage parker better than i do adult parker. mainly for the teen problems parker has. i'm a sucker for teen dramas. good to have both. read amazing for adult parker and usm for teen parker.
