For instance, a friend of mine will be running karaoke at the Speakeasy booth.
Anyone know of anything else being done in particular booths or elsewhere at the Con that the Program Guide might not mention?
I plan to list as many as I'm told of in this week's PERMANENT DAMAGE, to help get people aware of as many alternative events at the Con as possible.
Thanks for any help. You can list them here or email them to me (obvious1@comicbookresources.com) But I need them by Tuesday afternoon. (And no Moody Blues jokes allowed.)

Don't know if this is the sort of thing you mean, but at the About Comics booth (#1903), we'll be announcing the date for 24 Hour Comics Day 2006.

I really meant more in terms of little shows, previously unannounced signings or visitations, giveaways, that sort of thing, but I'll mention the 24 hour announcement.

I have never been to one of these conventions. Are they fun?

I have never been to one of these conventions. Are they fun?Do you mean you've never been to ANY convention or just Comi-Con?
I live in lovely downtown Hollywood, but have no interest in braving the Comi-Con beast down in San Diego. Getting Grant to sign my Last Heroes book would be cool, but the rest of it sounds like a nightmare.

I have never been to any comic convention. Why do you think this one would be a nightmare?

I have never been to any comic convention. Why do you think this one would be a nightmare?I don't like big crowds and Comi-Con sounds like just too many people and too much noise and too much visual stimulation.
As far as conventions go, I just want to dig through some long boxes and maybe chat for even just a few seconds with creators whose work I admire. So, if doing that sounds like fun to you, then you would enjoy it. I think they're a hell of a lot of fun, but I just love digging through boxes looking for items to fill a collection or discovering new stuff to collect. Buying shit on Ebay, which is easy and quick, just doesn't cut it compared to digging in boxes.
I haven't been to a convention in years, but I used to go all the time in NYC. There was this Upper West Side one in a church basement that was cool. One time I went and scored a small stack of Arcade underground magazines for cheap, then went back a few months later and got Art Spiegleman to autograph the back cover of one that he illustrated. The Big Apple Con was also a lot of fun. I got to chat with Julius Schwartz for a few minutes once and then saw a great interview with John Romita Sr. Those are the highlights for me.
