It has been a while since I did these threads, but here goes... It's the second story arc for Peter David on his reunion with Ol' Greenskin and this time, it's as part of the "House of M" mini series, where the Hulk acts as guardian of an aborigine tribe in Australia!

I don't normally read Incredible Hulk, but got the issue due to the House of M tie-in. I'm normally an X-Men reader, so the appearances by Gateway, Exodus, Pyro, and Unus were gravy atop a really good issue. Can't wait to see where this is going, even though I'll be dropping the book as soon as HoM ends. :)

it was decent. i didnt really like the art, which is weird since im usually a fan of lucas. so im blaming the inker. who was that other dude with exodus and pyro? when exodus threw down pyro, the other dude turned clear and phased out of the way to let pyro pass through him. any thoughts?

I really liked it. I did like the twist of the Old Man knowing that something was wrong with reality and Banner telling him that his sense of happiness for the first time was a sign of it.

This is my first exposure to the crossover and if the rest of the mini is like this, I'm enjoying it, but I've always enjoyed seeing alternate versions of characters I know, like Unus and Pyro.

Thought the anti-human Sentinels were a cool touch.

It is interesting to see Banner and the Hulk finally get their wish. They are accepted and are living a "normal" live and coexist in their new community well. That the Hulk feels the same sense of belonging and duty to his community that Banner does and I don't think this has ever been the case in "regular" continuity.

I loved Hulk tossing the force-fielded Unus into the Sentinel.

The odd thing about this is that in the larger picture of House of M, this feels weird. In no other comic have we heard about humans being treated like they have in this issue. My guess is that PAD wasn't told just what the total nature of the world would be and just wrote this like he did.

Unless there is some small conspiracy going along that we haven't seen in the main title. But I haven't read Uncanny X-Men: HOM, FF HOM and Iron Man HOM so maybe I'm wrong and these concepts were used in those comics.

Now, on its own, I enjoyed this issue a lot. It almost felt like it was in the normal Marvel Universe and not the HoM reality.

This is the first time I've seen the new Scorpion and I found her to be a likable enough character here.

its not that far off from the rest of the book. in this they mentioned that in most places humans were just second class citizens, and its only in austrailia theyre being placed in interment camps. theres enough evidence of their treatment as second class citizens in the other books.

There was no inker. Either that, or Lucas inked his own pencils.

ARG! I'm not reading any posts in this thread until I pick it up. It arrived after my LCS closed yesterday so I'll have to pick it up in a couple of days.

The Vanisher, maybe?

Good issue, although not what I expect from a Hulk book. It was strange to see the new Scorpion there, looking exactly as she does in 616.

vanisher was what i thought too, but he doesnt go invisible, he teleports. still, thats who im going with. when it comes to loser villains from the earliest issues of xmen its always unus and vanisher.

I loved this issue, 2nd best HoM tie-in after the fantastic four. mad action!

I don't care for the red and white stripes running down the left side and obscuring part of the nice cover art on this issue. That art made me take a more considered look when I saw the solicitations here on CBR. I have been pleased with Marvel's small name and issue number logo, in use of late. The House of M logo in the upper left would have probably been more than enough to identify this issue as a tie-in.

Haven't read Hulk in a while, but I've always loved the character. What do you think, is this a good time to jump on board? I have no interest in trying to follow the whole Marvel Universe, but Hulk and DD have always been favorites.

kid, with Peter David on board, I don't think you'll be disappointed. The Hulk is a fantastic character but I suggest that you pick up the previous arc before you get into the House of M tie-in. It'll just give you more of an idea of what's to come after the current arc is over. With that said, if you can't afford the previous issues, just jump on with #83 and enjoy the ride.

Don't forget Adam, from the book "Machine Teen."

I'm a big Marvel Next fan, so I loved seeing these little things. Perhaps the Livewires will appear, or the Pride

I loved seeing Hulk in the bald look again along with the snake tatoo which made him more visually interesting.

Scorpion's appearance alongside A.I.M was a nice way of implementing a human enemy into the 'sapian' side as a part of the rebellion. I think they're going to work their way up with Hulk's help and eventually overthrow and defeat any human oppresion from the Australia.

Jorge Lucas's art is quite good. His rendition of Banner, Gateway, Unus, Exodus, Scorpion are fun, especially his Hulk. He looks damn massive! What really brings out his art are the colors. It almost looks like it has a painted layer of textures and it gives the book a unique look.

While I didn't find this tie-in HoM book to be as great as the mini series, it's very good and worth a purchase based on the characters involved and the new situations they're put in for a more worldwide perspective.

7/10

This issue was great. Hulk as the guardian of the tribe was awesome. His dialogue with the leader of the tribe was deep and thought-provoking. The cameos were a great touch. The use of AIM was interesting and effective. And it seems as though the leader and Bruce know that the world is not as it should be.

Second best HoM tie-in, next to Spider-Man: HoM.

I figured I'd mention it again, as everyone is just referring to the character as 'Old Man' and 'Leader of the Tribe'. But the character design is consistant with the mutant Australian aborigine 'Gateway'. Another guest star. :)

It is the Vanisher, at least according to an interview given by Jorge Lucas. Obviously he teleported in that scene, because Pyro would still have hit him if he'd just gone invisible. But his teleportation was portrayed really unclearly...I had a lot of problems with the art overall.

I liked the story, though, and am in fangirl heaven to see Pyro again :D

-Hum.... Not worse than Unus force-ball-field :evilangry or Pyro's Firestorm "hairs" :evilangry . (I know he had Firestorm's look during the 90's, but there too that was a bad idea.) Pyro is not Firestorm, someone should give him his real look back.
-Certainly not as much a problem as Pyro the nazi ;)

Ho, Huh.... Beside these little problems, I liked the issue.

So this is my first glimps at hulk other then in my Essential Wolverine #1 Book. I thought the issue was awsome. I liked the art and the action. Hulk being bald was a plus since he looks way more pissed off that way. Best HoM tie in I have read so far, though I have not read my copy of the Fantastic Four HoM.

I really enjoyed the issue. It was great to see Australia as the backdrop of comic although it was pretty much flawed. The centre of Australia where the events were taking place has no forest, it is dry, barren, has red sand and is flat. The final scene where Banner and the old man have their chat was great. That was on top of Uluru a famous Australian landmark in the middle of Australia, you have to be fit to be able to climb to the top of that within half an hour. So Banner not giving Hulk the satisfaction is good.

The aboriginies were well drawn and it was good to see our native people in a comic book. Never heard of them being caled Abbies though, as one soldier refers to them as. The common derogative term is Abbo (although not a really nice one to mention down here).

This is the only House of M comic I will keep reading. I really didn't like the Spidey one.

I loved seeing Hulk and Banner happy, only to know it's going to be ripped away from them again...

Kind of like Spider-Man, but once House of M is over, he has to go back to a supermodel wife... poor Pete...

Instead, Hulk goes back to having to wander and trying to find peace... I really think he's going to lose more than anyone after all this is over.

Also... he threw crocodiles at people. Best attack ever!

Nice to see someone catching the details and authenticating the stuff show here. As for the forest section, I guess you can no-prize it with Wanda creating it or since 616 Earth/Australia isn't an exact copy of ours, it's going to have somewhat different landscapes to fit the story.

It was Unus who said that...as someone who's not a local (he's from Italy), he might have come up with his own term :p

Truthfully, this is was a snorefest for me. I'm not into the artwork, and the story just didn't feel like it was going anywhere. It was a chore to read. Which disappoints me because I've read a couple PAD Hulk issues before and they were great.

I liked the story, overall. In fact, I've really liked the past two Hulk stories: talking the Hulk out of his "normal" element and making him as strong a character as Banner. To me, this characterization is essential for a good Hulk story/plot, and was one of the main things lacking in Bruce Jones' run.

I mean, the Hulk protecting Aboriginies - doesn't get much more unique and interesting than that, imo.

Yep, I think this HOM issue is my fav HOM issue so far. Hopefully, HOM will get better this Wednesday.

Hulk #83 was the best storyline/plot relating to Mutants dominating Humans & inequality issues of any HOM so far really.

Well now that PAD is leaving again I don't know if I can say that it's a good time to start the book. I guess it depends on the person who comes in to replace him.
