I'm a Jason Lee fan. I've long considered him to be one of the best actors around, mainly because even if the film completely sucked, he was able to bring enough of his own affability and coolness to whatever role he was in to create enjoyable characters. He always came across as cool, relatable, and often, a bit too clever for the movie itself. Of course, I haven't seen every movie he's been in, so what I'm saying only applies to the Jason Lee roles I'm familiar with, but he seems to be an under-rated actor.
So, I'm kind of disappointed that he's now going to star in a network sitcom. This always seems to be the last resort for film actors. I hope the show is well-written and worth watching, but how many sitcoms can you say that about these days? It will be shame if it flops, because, as Kevin Smith said "he's a guy you love to see succeed."
Thoughts?

Worked really well for Kiefer Sutherland, though I guess that's not a sitcom.

He's playing In a comedy about a former crook named Earl. I want him to make It because Lee really Is a guy you cheer for. Even If he's playing a charactor thats a bad guy.

I really hoped he would make it after seeing him in Vanila Sky, but this doesn't look good.

Too true. Sitcoms always wind up being the lowest rung on the entertainment ladder.

Really? Seemed to work out pretty well for guys like Romano, Cosby, Seinfeld, and others. He is going from being the second bannana in movies to having his own show. Doesn't really seem like that much a drop to me. No if a guy like Hanks or Cruise suddenly started ona sitcom then maybe.
It isn't the sitcom it self that is bad it is usally bad writing.

For every Romano, Seinfeld, and Cosby, there are a dozen Tracy Morgans, Pauly Shores, Norm MacDonalds, Wanda Sykes, Andy Richters, and Mike O'Malleys. In this day and age, it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to build a career around a sitcom. The days of Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore are long over with, and even Friends and Frasier are becoming distant memories. The sitcom just isn't a legit vehicle anymore.
But it's also true that the writing is what counts. I hope this is the exception to the rule of sitcoms sucking.
Also, what's wrong with being the second banana? They get the best lines, they get to be cool without the burden of being dramatic, and they're the funniest guys in the picture. It's the best gig.
