Okay, I'm sure this has been done to death, but humor me. Let's just say that you get to create your ultimate Justice League using any DCU characters, past or present, dead or alive? Who's in it? Be sure to be specific when dealing with heroes for whom multiple individuals have carried the mantle. And you only get 10 roster spots. List your ten and identify "the leader."

For me, it's about the big guns. But you'll notice that Superman and Batman are conspicuously absent. While they're the "World's Finest" partnership, neither of seems to work well in a group-- whether as characters or just because the writer's don't know what to do with them. Therefore, Cap and Wonder Woman are my muscle to replace Supes, while J'onn covers the detective work, Atom is the scientist, and Green Arrow and Black Canary serve the hand-to-hand combat expertise for Batman (notice it takes four characters to cover Batman?)

This group may be a little too powerful, but I have a reason for picking them all. I picked Batman and Superman because they are the main reason I pick up the JLA. If they aren't in it, it's a 99 percent chance I won't pick it up. If at least one is in there, it's 50/50 that I'd pick it up, but with both, it's a guarantee.
I added Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Green Latern (Kyle), cause they are some of my favorite DC characters, and if they weren't in the JLA, I'd have to buy their own title to follow them (which I would). If they're just in the JLA however, I can get my fix off them without having to add more comics to my pull list ($$$$ :D ).
I added Flash and Manhunter cause the league just wouldn't have seemed quite right to me without them. I added Plastic Man for humor. I added Zatanna to cover the magic angle. As for Nightwing, I know it's very redundant to have him and Batman on the same team but darnit, I've wanted Dick to take the next step up to the JLA for a while. I might actually be willing to drop Batman for a while to let Dick get his shine time, (of course he'd eventually need to come back :) ).

I guess I go for a relativly "classic" JL with the iconic "big guns" of the DCU, backed up by a few second tier characters to fill gaps in the teams abilities. These are not necessarily the characters I find most interesting in the DCU, but the ones I think would work best in this team.

Personally, for example, I find Captain Marvel much more interesting than Superman, but he could not really take Supe's place as leader, and I just don't see the character working as an integral part of this team without getting pushed into the background.

You would need a writer who really respects Captain Marvel as a character. Joe Kelly mentioned his love of Cap in an interview and how he would love to replace Supes with Cap if the story called for it. But, when he did the replacement JLA in the Obsidian Age story, Cap was claimed by JSA at the time (I never understood why they couldn't just borrow the character for a few issues).

Thirteen in a coven, and they are occult based. Not all of them would be active at any one time. Jason Blood/Etrigan, Dr. Thirteen, and Dr. Occult would be their research department, and not always in the field. Tempest, who used to be Agualad, would be their ocean based operative. Swamp Thing is only a nominal member. Blue Devil, the Spawn of Frankenstein, Ragman, and Nightshade are the muscle. So, in the field you'd have Constantine, Dr. Fate, Zatanna, and Sargon.

I wouldn't want them to be the Justice League, per se, at least not in any permenant fashion, but it would crack me up to see this group having to pull together to form a sort of substitute league. Can you imagine it? Kyle and Jason would be at each other's throats constantly, with Helena enabling Jason's trigger-happy nature and vice-versa, Zachary would be snarking at everyone and probably incurring their wrath in the process, Connor would be trying to keep the peace with questionable success, Donna would be desperately trying to lead this motley crew and not rip out her hair in frustration, and Ryan and Kara would be standing in the middle of all this wondering what sort of loonies they've fallen in with.

And they'd fight crime. It would be marvelous. ^_^

1-Supergirl-We need someone of that power-level and she is alot more interesting thatn KAL
2-Martian Manhunter-One of the few people who is more powerful than Superman and who is always downplayed in powers and abilities
3-Flash-Wally West-the more speed the better
4-Green Lantern - Kyle, still my favorite GL.
5-Hawkman- Simply for the fact that he is BadAss
6-Phantom Stranger-We need an experienced magic user on our side and no-one is more experienced than he is
7-Oracle-Ggreat info has to come from somewhere
8-Zauriel-Just because I really liked the character
9-Captain Marvel- Strength, speed, and a good sense of right and wrong
10-Captain Atom-One of the most under-rated characters in DC for a really long time
11-Major Disaster-Because in JLA Elite he was friggin awesome and I really enjoyed him
12-Batgirl-Cassandra-Because I feel Batman has been played out lately(and they need someone to just fight a guy once in a while
