My girlfriend, Julia, has this increadible work ethic. I stay late and come in on weekends without being asked and even I am amazed at Julia's work ethic. She she has had this job, two years I believe, she has only used 3 sick days and one of them was to drive her father to the hospital for minor surgery.

She repairs lottery machines for a living. She drives around her county and provides onsite service for the lottery machines. Most of the time they are not really broken. Somebody didn't put in the printer tape right or many times she has come in and found that the machine was only unplugged. Minor stuff like that.

There are supposed to be three people working her county. She is supposed to get two weekends off and then work the third...and that third weekend she get the previous Thursday and Friday off. Well, one of the people she works with quit and the third person (a real jerk) went on vacation. And the replacement for the person who quit is supposed to go through two weeks training before being put in the field. So that means Julia is working by herself.

This means she is working every single day since June 23rd and will have to work every single day until July 18th! And she has been working 12 hour shifts, not including the time to drive to and from work! To top it off the governor of Maryland called her boss to complain that she did not fix the lottery machine his secretary uses fast enough and wants her fired. Mind you, she did get to it the same day she got the call. Her boss told the Governor she is the best tech he has ever had and won't be firing her...which may cause problems for the company later when their contract is up for renewal.

Anyway, during all this time I saw her for four hours on the 4th of July and that is it...and probably won't see her again until the 18th. I am just going crazy, missing her so much. I am seriously thinking of kidnapping her and taking her to the beach for the day just so she can get a day off work.

Man, I feel bad for her.

Anybody know anything about kidnapping? I can use some advice.

It sounds like you just have to suck it up. Without someone to cover the work, any 'kidnapping' you do is just going to stress her out and make her job even harder when she gets 'released'.

I recommend dropping 'Work in Hell' care packages off filled with treats she likes, flowers, things like that. Anything to relieve her stress and reassure her that you are understanding and supportive of her situation (ie., that you miss her but are not another cause of stress by making her feel bad that she doesn't have more time to spend with you). Just don't overdo it and look obsessive.

When this whole thing is over, she'll remember that you had her back during all of this and your relationship will benefit from the test of hard times.

Well, due to a court order I'm not allowed to provide that kind of information anymore. But Capt had some great suggestions there.

That really sucks for both of you. You should plan something really fantastic for you to do together on the 18th.

Hang in there though. :o

She knows I have her back...which is why I am venting here instead of where she can hear it.

But wow, do I miss her.

since i'm in another country, i'm the one going to have to answer this.

the first thing you need to do is RESEARCH!

yes - the r-word. see the thing is youre going to actually have to follow (stalk) her around for a few days, and take notes of her activities. from that vantage point, try to figure out her movement and behaviour patterns. pick out a time where she performs the least common activity and then abduct her at that point. also choose that time where there has the least points of third party observance - take timing and environment into consideration.

now the easiest way to do it, is to just walk up behind her and club her on the back of her head and knock her unconscious and stuff her into a sack. the thing is you need her intact - afterall - TC needs action doesnt he. so the best thing to do is to use choloroform. knock her out, drive to niagra falls, explain to her the whole thing. if youre lucky, you might just get lucky. then, release a few random kindap and ransom notes - you know the ones which have cut and pasted letters from those old columbo episodes on tv (and make sure you dont get any of your fingerprints on them damn it).

on the last day, have her hypnotized so she'll forget the whole ordeal. release her and she'll be 'found' and they'll make a hero out of her - even though she does not remember a damn thing. she'll get her pay anyway and some extras along with a book deal and a tv movie of the week. she'll be so rich, she'll retire early, and you'll live happily ever after.

the end

(ps i'm not serious)

Just as a follow up....

My girlfriend worked a total of 80 hours of overtime in two weeks. That is not including her regular hours, just overtime.

When she went to put in her paycheck she was told that there is a new policy about overtime. The amount of overtime anybody is elligible for is based on a formula that includes the average calls per day the company got. Now keep in mind, Julia works out of MD which has more lottery machines than any other state her company covers. Which means she averages 20 calls a day spread out over a 2 hour driving distance. Now the techs in, say, Georgia average 2 calls a day, if that. And those Georgia calls were part of the equation.

So, in short, her employer told her that even though she had to work 80 hours of overtime, she was only goting to be paid for 4 of them. This policy change was in the new employee handbook (which nobody was told about) that is available upon request.

Luckily I had a friend who is a lawyer who called up Julia's boss. She will be getting all the money she is due, but she was told to not let it happen again.

I really, REALLY need to find her a new job.

80 hours of overtime and they were only going to pay her for 4? That's freaking ridiculous. At least she's going to get the money though, and I guess that is one plus side to this whole situation. 80 hours of overtime is 3 weeks' pay, if she's getting time and a half.

Concerning the whole kidnapping issue, I've found, er, I mean, I've heard, that the best option is a rag soaked in chloroform. Or if you want to play out the club scene, slip a roofie into her drink.

I hope it works out for you my friend, I hate to see people that adore one another forced apart for whatever reason. You're a great bloake on here and I can only imagine your lady is the perfect compliment.

I've had a double close weekend with my lady, we did a few pics today and this one just plain shimmers with how much I adore her...and how much i'm missing her. Hope you don't mind me posting it. :)

How can you deny an alarm clock that goes "Hey dude, get up and get out of bed!" and "Hey man, aren't you out of bed yet?!"... actually...maybe he's trying to get ride of me (*paranoia kicks in*) ... maybe you're right... (*throws alarm clock out of the window*) :p

The best alarm clock I ever saw was one that one of my counselors had at summer camp. It was Garfield, and it had the voice from the cartoon show. The alarm was "Time to wake up!" and the snooze was "Awww, go back to bed. Sleep longer!"

It might not seem funny, but the voice had all the right inflections to make it the perfect alarm clock.

Of course, me, I'll always be happy with my old school buzzer alarm clock. It reminds me of the beginning of The Tick.

make her quit her job. that's it. if the company refuses, make her demand more salary. there are lots of companies out there who will pay her and treat her right.

She certainly deserves much better. The workhours suck the most.
