I just got this game Pokemon Emerald, and it is fun. I got it for my bro but I ended up playing it more than he did. I'll have to buy me my own and trade over my Marshstomp. :D

Is Ruby or Sapphire any good?

Is it true there is a Pokemon game being designed for the DS?

And if anyone has played Emerald, a question. I just got to the weather center, and they gave me a monster that will change with the weather. I don't know what moves to make it learn. Any ideas to make it cool?

I've always been a big fan of the pokemon games. My only beef with Nintendo
is that they ALWAYS release 2 game titles, and then a third one that is an
upgrade to them both, yet is still relatively the same game.

Not to mention that most Pokemon games play exactly alike, and they only
add very few new things every game.

They seriously need to do a big push for this game.

Why is this a problem? You getting variety that you dont get with other games.

No they dont, the game is pratically perfect. Add to many things and it isnt the same game. I dont want pokemon colleseum for the DS.
I think the changes they will have to make to take advantage of the DS's features will be enough for me.

I had Ruby and it was Fantastic! But if you already have Emerald I dont see any reason to buy Ruby or Sapphire.

There is a racing pokemon game, which I hear sucks. But no RPG yet.

We were given a GBA a few years ago with a Mario game, and my kids didn't show much interest in it. Then they got into the Pokemon cartoon, so I hunted down some of the original games on eBay: Red Blue and Yellow. My wife doesn't like 'em, so that's one game each for me and the kids. They absolutely loved them, so we splurged on GBA SPs for everybody, then found the GBC versions Gold Silver and Crystal, one each again.

For us, the appeal of similar but slightly different editions works great, and gives us something we can all do together. Trading is great fun.

Each time however one of my kids got the "combined" edition. This time around, they've got Ruby and Sapphire, and I've got the Emerald, so neener neener neener!

It's actually got about 40% more than the other two games: new areas, silver/gold pokemon in the Safari Zone, you get to battle BOTH Team Aqua and Magma (including going through their headquarters, etc). And of course there's the whole Mirage Island and Battle Frontier additions as well. So for my money, Emerald was well worth it, even if you have Ruby or Sapphire already.

Now I'm just waiting for a combined edition for Fire Red/Leaf Green (which yes, the kids already have). What, Ocean Blue if it ever comes out? And you bet they're complaining that it'll have new stuff that they don't, and that its not fair that Dad gets the new ones, blah blah blah blah blah!

Too bad, so sad! Dad needs his little victories, since he's the one spending his hard earned cash on all this stuff!

If you're a single person or have nobody to trade with, then the multiple editions are probably not worth your while. Sell the Ruby and get Emerald instead!

this is the same thing for me and my girlfriend. i would have a problem with buying two copies of The Sims for our DS when they are the same, we can just take turns. I have no doubt that we will have our own copies of Nintendogs and Pokemon when they come out though.

I'm sorry folks, but I believe Nintendo has been using the franchise long enough.

Well then you're foolish. The games are consistently improving and continueing to be a beast seller. Why get rid of a game franchise that people want? Do you think they should get rid of Mario an Zelda too?

I agree with you. :)

Do you also find it ironic that a person is saying how Pokemon shouldn't last any longer is posting it on a comic message board - a genre of entertainment whose most remarkable characters are no less than ten years old?

More on Pokemon DS

UNCONFIRMED: New details on a radical gameplay shift for the next Pokemon series.
Nintendo has been decidedly discrete about their upcoming Pokemon games for the DS. The new series was not shown at E3, and has never been discussed. Thus, the proceeding information about the title must be taken with a grain of salt.

The internet site, www.Neoseeker.com has listed a brief description of the next Pokemon series, and has offered a list of features availble for the games. It is said that the next game in the series will feature a cooperative mode along with an option for competitive play.

According to Neoseeker, "The multiplayer features allow for co-op and competitive play with friends; gym leaders and opposing trainers are actually other players!" With such a level of peer involvement , it is possible that the next generation of Pokemon titles could be MMORPG's.

The gameplay of the title is allegedlly radically different from the previous iterations of the series. Players are said to be able to follow their own path in the world of Niko. Whether it be through joining Team Rocket, opening a store or hotel, or even becoming a gym leader.

The graphics of Pokemon Pearl are supposedly set for a major increase. The next games in the series are said to feature graphics similar to Pokemon Stadium 2.

As expected, the new games will feature a brand new set of creatures, however, according to Neoseeker, it is possible to visit other regions of the Pokemon world.

Please remember to take the above details about the game with a grain of salt, as nothing about this game has been confirmed. Be sure to check with us in July for the possibility of more information regarding these titles

Nearly all the info posted on NeoSeeker about it (Like playing as Gym Leaders), has long been proven to have been speculation that someone decided to put up as fact . . .

Aww, thats not cool.

But here is an article from IGN, which I assume is credible.

Pokemon Update
New details on Diamond & Pearl, plus the mysterious Pokemon Ranger.
by Anoop Gantayat

July 11, 2005 - Earlier today, IGN passed along a few unconfirmed reports from Japan indicating that Pokemon Pearl & Diamond would be seeing Japanese DS release in 2006 instead of 2005. We now have confirmation. The games are scheduled for simultaneous Japanese release some time next year. A US release will presumably follow some time next year as well.

Nintendo seems to be putting a whole lot into the development of these two titles. Owners of the Game Boy Advance Pokemon games will be able to hook up their cartridges to the DS and take along their GBA Pokemon for the adventure. The company is planning for much more than this, though. We'll have to wait for details to follow.

While details on Pearl & Diamond are still scarce, we have learned a bit. Nintendo plans on taking the franchise to an all new land for the big DS debut. Currently, the developers are deciding on how to start off your quest, determining the number of Pokemon that should accompany you from the start. This is an area that required fine tuning even for Ruby & Silver, with the developers originally experimenting with having anywhere between one and five Pokemon at the outset.

Regarding Pokemon types, Nintendo has revealed that it does not plan on going beyond the current seventeen forms of Pokemon. However, there will be additional combination types. You can also count on seeing additional skills for your favorite Pokemon.

The biggest new bit we've learned concerns Nintendo's plans for wireless connectivity with the titles. The DS allows for 16 players to communicate via WiFi. Pokemon Diamond & Pearl will make full use of this capability. Specifics will be revealed later, but just imagine hooking up with fifteen players!

Also mentioned in our previous report was Pokemon Ranger, a new Pokemon project set for release in 2006. It's unclear at this point if Ranger is actually a game. Based on what we've heard, Ranger seems like it could be a game based around next year's movie.

It's unfortunate that Diamond & Pearl won't be arriving in 2005, but given the effort Nintendo seems to be putting into the title, we'll gladly wait a few extra months. With Diamond & Pearl, and the mysterious Pokemon Ranger, Pokemon fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming year.

The two things I liked most from this article: 1.) You can use Pokemon from your GBA game, this would be an awesome feature and I am now considering picking up Emerald. 2.) It sounds like Game Freak and Nintendo are taking their time with this one, and that is very good news.

You know what I'd like to see in a new game? More of an rpg element with the player. Like some kind of statage representing what you're better at trainingwise.

OK, more Pokemon goodness for you fans.

Remember all that buzz about a possible new Pokemon game being prepared to coincide with the Japanese debut of next year's Pokemon flick? It turns out that Nintendo wasn't just talking about one new Pokemon title, but three!

First up is Pokemon Ranger: The Road to Diamond and Pearl for the DS. This newest title is an action RPG set in the world of the upcoming Pokemon Ranger movie. You play as a Pokemon Ranger. Different from a Pokemon Trainer, a Ranger travels the lands, using Pokemon in a fight to defend nature from baddies. Pokemon Ranger is set for Japanese release in 2006. Its release will precede that of Diamond and Pearl with the games all linking up together for some top secret bonuses.
Nintendo is also working on a new puzzle game for the DS featuring more than 380 of your favorite Pokemon. Titled Pokemon Torouze, the DS's dual screens are used to display a game board showing Pokemon face pieces. Using the touch pen, your goal is to line up four like pieces vertically or horizontally. The pieces then disappear. In addition to pure puzzle-based gameplay, Torouze will also include an adventure mode in which you lead main character Lucy Lightfoot on a big adventure to save her Pokemon friends from an evil organization.

The fun doesn't end there, though. Both DS and Game Boy Advance owners can look forward to a new type of Pokemon game with Pokemon Mysterious Dungeon, a game based off he long-running, Japan-only Mysterious Dungeon series of games. The DS will be getting Blue Rescue Force with the GBA getting Red Rescue Force. Aside from the name, and an expected simultaneous Winter release date for both versions, we know nothing about this surprise pair.

Pokemon Torouze will kick off this new batch of Pokemon fun with a Japanese release set for 10/20. There's no word yet from Nintendo of America on the release plans for any of these new titles.

Crap. Now I have to buys a DS.

This game's gonna be amazing.

But it also brings up old painful memories of my Pokemon Ruby game being completely erased (after completing the pokedex with all my favorites at level 100 - not to mention some that were carried over from Pokemon Gold and Silver). :(
