Is Jim Corrigan back? Anyone knows???

Right now, it's nobody. The Spectre doesn't have a human soul attached to it.
That'll likely be resolved in the next few months, between JSA and the DAY OF VENGEANCE mini-series.

Right now, The Spectre doesn't have a host.
Edit: Beaten to the punch.

There's a guy in the Gotham Central book named Corrigan who may or may not be the new host.

I'll bank on Ted becoming Spectre before the end of this Crisis.

Which is silly as Blue Beetle didn't do anything that requires needing redemption for.

That's what I've been thinking too. The original Jim Corrigan was a crooked cop before he was killed and bonded with the Spectre back in the 40's. And this Corrigan is a crooked cop too. Rucka mentions this new Corrigan in almost every Gotham Central issue, so I'm curious to see if Rucka will be writing a new Spectre book (maybe for One Year Later) or if he's just helping set it up for another writer.

That is silly. The only Spectre who was a Spirit of Redemption was Hal, because nobody could see Hal running around murdering people who had done some hieneous stuff.
The Spectre was, originally, the Divine Wrath of God bound to the soul of a human being who desired vengeance. Jim Corrigan was a good man, a good cop, murdered by criminals. His vengeance was sought out when the Spectre was in need of a new host and another Spirit of Vengeance was born. Before him, every mortal that the Divine Wrath was bound to was someone seeking vengeance.
Being capped by a third-stringer like Max sounds like something that would piss Ted off enough to want vengeance.

Unless there's some retcone I'm unaware of, James Brendan Corrigan was a good cop who was murdered by a gangster. And it was his thirst for vengeance that brought the Spectre to him.

It'll probably be Ted, but I kinda hope not - it's pretty obvious. And if Ted's Spectre, then Booster's going to be the new Blue Beetle. Too obvious.

The reason I doubt Beetle would make a good Spectre isn't that he might not want vengeance on his murderer, it's that I don't think he has the deep core of generalized anger that Corrigan had to sustain him afterwards.

After wonder woman kills him as Ruin. Perhaps will get a second chance as the spectre? Like hal did?
What it means for clark, lana, lex or even Diana might be interesting?

The original Corrigan wasn't corrupt, in terms of taking bribes or otherwise cooperating with the mob. But he was fine with unnecessary violence, sleeping with witnesses, etc. And of course at one point he killed someone for a woman.

Trying to turn Ted into a grim and gritty fellow would also be a stupid idea. He's not wrath. He doesn't need redemption. What he needed was a death scene (if they were so insistent on killing him off) that made sense and didn't have the heroes of the DCU act like jerks just so he could be alone when he died.

I really don't think it'll be Beetle...or Pete Ross either, for that matter.
I agree with whoever said a while back that it would better if it's just some nameless schlob we've never seen before.

He's not dead. Black Adam revived him by calling on the Shazambolts like a defribulator.

I would bet that the new human host for the spectre would be someone who is going to die during the crisis. I see so many signs bats is going to fall so i would be on him. Could you just imagine it. The man is scary enough when he is human and when you combine him with the wrath of god. Some major scary $#!+.

Am I the only one who thinks that using dead super-heroes that we're already familiar with as Spectre hosts is completely uninspired?? That just makes the DCU seem far too small for me. I'd be much more impressed if they introduced a new character entirely who happened to be deserving of the role as Spectre - not necessarily a super-hero either, but another nobody like Jim Corrigan who just got a bad deal on life. And not necessarily a male nobody, either.

Actually, to make everyone happy, Kyle Rayner will become the new Spectre, a younger, hipper and cooler Spectre with a more laid-back and easy-going attitude.

Well as Hal replaced his replacement, how do we know they won't just do what every comic company does when a revamp didn't work, and bring Jim Corrigan back as The spectre?
DMike

Because (1) I think they've already ruled that out and (2) pulling a person out of Heaven after he's explicitly earned his eternal rest would be both stupid and incredibly mean-spirited on the writers's parts. At least Hal was still in the process of redeeming himself; Corrigan has nothing left to redeem.

Kind of agree, but I don't think Batman's gonna die in the crisis. Maybe Azrael could come back as the Spectre? He is dead, isn't he? He's not such an obvious choice, which would make him a good candidate.

Ah, but he's technically a suicide, so he would be in Hell. He gassed himself and threw himself off a mountain.

Depends on what the "God" of the DC universe thinks about it.

Well, it really depends on who's writing! After all, suicide is a mortal sin, even if you think you have a good reason. :p
I think Wesley Dodds would be a very strange pick for the Spectre. He's too much of a humanist -- I can't really imagine the Spectre running around solving mysteries and helping people out. A mellow Spectre.
Well, perhaps it will be Jean Loring -- Eclipso will try to take the power of the Spectre but Loring will take over. And through some deux ex machina Loring will be sane again! And the Spectre.

Actually DC's Hell seems to be more for people who feel they deserve to be there and people who sell their souls rather than people who simply commit sins.

So I will confess that Darwyn Cooke was speaking to two other DC guys while doing my sketch and they started talking about who the new Spectre was and I didn't tune in on time to catch it. Damn it!

When someone mentioned to Didio if Jason Todd were to become Batman he said:"it will be clear after Infinity Crisis what Jason will become". So my money is one him becoming The Spectre.
Then again, how about Alan Scott? It might just be the balance that The Spectre needs, this veteran defender of the DC universe that has seen it all. Plus he never really had a proper super-hero identity once he stopped being Green Lantern.
