Lotsa stuff to explore in that gallery man!

You own some beautiful work, Gene. I'm envious of a few of the Bachalo pieces. Of course I love the Mignola pages, but I really like the diversity of what you own of his (Ironwolf being a fave of mine)

Gene, your collection is mind-numbingly good. You have many pieces I would love to own. The Moebius pieces really ramp up my envy meter. I read all kinds of his stuff in Heavy Metal magazine back in the 70's and have seen few artists who can map out a page as thoroughly or as accurately as him. He somehow puts in tons of detail while creating huge open spaces and volumes in his drawings.
Some of my other favourite pages are in your fan art section.

Petersen, morna and Sir Edward- I am very happy that you find my gallery interesting. I have more to post.
Some of my other favourite pages are in your fan art section.
Thank you kindly, my dear Sir E.

Thanks for the info, The Cure. I knew it was from some video game but I didn't know which. Sorry about these two identical threads going. Sheesh...even my thread has a dual personality. I am sure Lady J will soon fix it for me.

Dupe thread deleted :)

Some great stuff Gene, very jealous of the Bisley pieces (have 2 pages of Fistful of Blood) especially the HM Dredd piece. Nice to have another Bisley fan here.

What makes you think you will still have your collection after your guests, and you know who I am talking about, gave you a visit. I heard they have big plans. ;)

Updated my online gallery. Added two new pages by Mignola.http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryRoom.asp?GSub=12107
Please check out Alex Nino's gallery. Alex is one of the artists who influenced Mignola during his formative years.
Have fun!

Just added two more Mignola pieces into the gallery. While you are there please visit the Miscellaneous Gems gallery. There is a piece by our next Hellboy artist Duncan Fegredo. It is somewhat of a self-portrait.

"burn yer candle too quickly" and you should make plans

Hey K_D- My only wish is that he would be a little bit less 'spontaneous' so that we can tell what the heck he is drawing. e.g.Metal Gear Solid comics.

Great collection, Gene! Wish your scans were bigger though. Can't really appreciate the nuances of your collection at the size you have.
Gene Poonyo

hellboyone- You are absolutely correct. For pin-ups the sizes were okay. But the pages lost a lot of the details. I will keep that in mind next time I post.
And, thanks for visiting my gallery.

Gene, your page just mocks mine, it really does..i really dig your Wolves of St August page, it's just..right.
Love the AH! Aliens facehugger art too.
I must admit that HB-Rune art looks good in both of our CAF pages
Gene Poonyo

skinnymikec-Which page was mocking yours? I really do not know what you are talking about. I do not have any of Mignola painted pieces like you do. Besides, your Rune piece is better than mine cause you scanned it from the original. Mine was scanned from a copy. :)

A ha Gene, i meant your overall art collection mocks mine. Your Mignola gallery alone is such a beaut. Why is Hellboyone's collection not on Comic Art Fans?

I made an account but I haven't had time to re-scan the collection yet. Plus trying to figure out how to do now that most of it is behind frames.

Great collection there, Gene, in all senses of the word "great"! I'm especially fond of the Mignola pieces naturally, but admire your Alex Toth doodles also.
Although I discovered Toth quite late in the game (only recently in fact), it's hard not to see the similar sensibilities that he and Mike share in breaking down images to their simplest elements. B-E-A-utiful stuff all around!

Yeah... I have to agree with you on that. Most of his art looks good after he edits it. Without it it's mostly blury but beautiful stuff non the less. I gues his painting are really a thing I would love to own one day... These are 100% perfect!

Thanks, Stygian. But I wouldn't describe my gallery as great, though. I have seen some and they were unbelievable. If not for a place like Comicartfans, my collection would be gathering dust in the drawers.
Believe it or not, Mike was not influenced by Alex Toth at all. He did talk about it in the Comic Book Artist interview. I first saw Alex Toth's work and fell in love with it without even knowing that it was by him. It was the FBI Story movie adaptation, Dell #1069. Classic story telling at its best.

Now don't misunderstand me, Gene sir. I didn't say that Mike was influenced by Toth. I just said that they have similar sensibilities. :D

Oh, no, no. I did not misunderstand you at all. What I was trying to say was even with all the similarities we found in Mike's work with Alex Toth's, he was not influenced by Alex at all, and that to me was kinda like a Believe it or Not scenario. Great [design] minds must think alike, I guess.

Yes, great minds do think alike Gene, I agree. Although, I am often reminded with different artists that we are all influenced (either directly or indirectly) by other artists work that we've seen or perhaps only glimpsed. Did Mike make a concerted effort to sit down and study Toth? Well, the short answer is no. However, was Mike ever exposed to his work and perhaps subconsiously worked that style into his stuff? That territory becomes a bit more murky. :)

Just my 2, but... as Toth grew as an artist, he learned that he
could make a better drawing by using fewer lines. This pushed the
reader into a partnership with the artist. Mignola's style shares
this aspect of creative "shorthand".
