I've never sold anything on Ebay before, but today all that changed....

My house is full of useless crap. Maybe I'll unload some of it!

What are you selling at the moment?

Congrats! It is a lot of fun. I have sold about as much as I have bought on EBAY. I am up to 450 feedback. I have been a member since Sept. 2002.

Congrats, Mac!

I'm selling comics and a tech item. In fact, I'm really tired of listing. I JUST got through pissin' and moanin' in the chatroom about how that's all I could stand for the night.

Much luck on your eBaying and the clearing out of items.

I've been buying for a few years (under another ID), but this is the first time I've tried selling.

If it goes well, I may try selling my CDs of Irish music or my Certificates of Deity there. Hey, why not?

I've been selling my comic collection for the past year. I'm in Phase 2 at the moment, and my lots are divided up by artists. I've had moderate success, and what money I've made has REALLY helped us out after the baby came along.

Now, Mac, not to rain on your parade, but wouldn't posting the link to your auction break one of the major rules of the boards? Not that I'VE got a problem with it...I'd love to post links to my auctions here.

Well, he's doing it as information, rather than pimping. Or, that's my excuse.

Hehe... An "Ebay virgin"... Living in the era of multiple virtual cherry-poppings is kinda cool, right?

Probably, if I were selling comic-related stuff. This is just me talking about my favorite subject, me.

Tech item?

Eh?

I just made about 300 on ebay. Shipping was a bear though.

Eh? A laptop.

Not the one work just gave you?

sounds like you're taking my advice.

"Shipping was a bear" means I lost my shirt.

Edit: And I just put up a busted iPod.

Not the one work just gave you? Nah. I purchased another one a week or two, ago. Now I'm selling the HP to recover from the purchase.

I'm tired of installing updates n whatnot, though. I may put'em both up just because I've got so much other stuff to deal with, already. The one from work can keep me afloat if I decide to go that route.

"Shipping was a bear" means I lost my shirt. ...selling stuff on eBay, as I suggested, yes.

You'll learn to estimate shipping more accurately.

Edit: And I just put up a busted iPod.
I'm sure you have some aluminum foil, peanut butter, and rubber bands lying around. You'll have it up and running, again, in no time.

Rule #4: No spam. No selling or advertising for the purposes of making money. This includes posting collections for sale or linking to an online auction. These will be deleted. Repeat offenders will be banned.

So by your logic, I could start a post talking about myself, then include a link to one of my auctions (some of which are ending today...go check 'em out!!!), and that would get me around the rule?

Hmm...

No, sorry. You can talk about your auctions but you can't link to them, and after being alerted to this by a couple of people I've had to be the bad guy and go take the links out. If any of the items being discussed sounds like something you're actually interested in, PM the person and ask for a link; but putting them in this thread raises too many charges of favoritsm/why-can't-I-post-my-auctions-too, and we really just can't go there.

I feel like such a hypocrite. I was actually looking over borateen's listings yesterday (He's got some good stuff.) But rules are rules; we can't make exceptions just for people we like or because they're selling stuff we might actually be interested in.

Sorry to be the eBay Grinch, people, but that's the ruling.

In an effort to expiate my guilt-ridden hypocrisy -- because I BUY a lot of stuff on eBay and I'd probably be interested in the auctions, I feel a lot like a three-martini-lunch dad telling his kid to stay away from drugs and alcohol -- I will add that in addition to the people in this thread, CBR poster Jayna has a lot of good stuff up on eBay and you should check out her auctions, too; it's for a good cause, it's helping her and her daughter get back on their feet after her jerky ex left them hanging with a lot of bills. Drop her -- or, hell, me -- a PM and ask for the link, especially you sword-and-sorcery fantasy geeks.

Well, I hope you enjoy eBay Mac. I've been a member since 1999, and have enjoyed it so far. Hopefully you'll experience much of the same.

Greg,

I knew I wouldn't be able to skirt the rules...it was said tongue-in-cheek. A while back I had had a link in my signature to my auctions, and I'd change the text of the sig each week to let people know what was up. That was me being a hypocrite because I am always reporting posts similar to Mac's (but to be fair, Mac is a regular who wanted to tell some news, and 99% of the other posts I've reported are all by newbies who want to do nothing but announce their auctions, and then they're gone). I don't know why I thought including the link in my sig was really any different than starting a post about it. Apparently somebody reported me and a mod went in and changed my sig...making me look like quite the ass, really. I kinda wish the mod had ASKED me or TOLD me to change it rather than changing it themselves into something snarky and childish, but I got the point.

Anyways, thanks for keeping an eye on my auctions. In the past 10 months I've found out that having a kid is VERY expensive (2 more months of buying formula, 2 more months of buying formula...), and the auctions have helped keep us relatively in the black (or very close to it).

Actually, I don't recall the Mod who did it ever actually telling me, and I don't think I made a fuss about it (it was quite a while ago), so unless the Mod reveals himself/herself (and I'm not calling the person out...it's not much of a concern to me), we'll never know. But I'm pretty sure it was before Cronin took over as Mod on the Comm board.

The links have been removed from the post you quoted, but you can find them if you want them....

Go to Monkey Spit (you know the URL) and click on anything that says "Be a God" and you'll find out all about it.

If you're looking for the Drunken Irish Peasant music, you have to work a little harder... Go to my Celtic arts site, the Harp and Thistle (www.harp-thistle.com) and then add "/catalog/" to the URL and you'll see what's there.

Hopefully, this exercise in circumlocution (oh, look it up already) will effectively skirt the rules to everybody's satisfaction.

Did it have a cover letter attached? I only read memos and TPS reports with cover letters. Everything else goes in the shredder.
