Oy Vey.

Okay... at the behest of my good pal, the estemable Sir John Thompson, I am embarking on the official RB art thread. I'm kinda nervous about it... in deference to the fabulous stuff seen on the baord, and a general loathing of my own work, but what the heck... I'll put it out there and try with all my humility to accept the opinions and tastes of the honourable members herein.

Enough pre-amble... on with the goods...

Let's start with a collage like look at some of the commercial projects I've done over the last few years. Advertising... gevalt...

I do like that Springsteen, though...

It seems I can't do too many in one post... so I'll split this over a few...

...to be continued...

the study for my "Summer Art Exchange" piece

and the final product... ( acrylic on canvas - 9" X 12" )

I think that's about it for now... and really... don't you think it's enough?!

Ok then... the floor is yours... go to it!!!

ooh! ron boyd art! Rockin' stuff all around. I really dig the Springsteen piece, as well as the Batman/Hellboy pic. Lovin' your exchange peice, also! Wonder if I'm gettin' that one? :D

The sculpture dude is sweet, sculpture is one of the many things that is completely beyond me.

Ron,
Good to see you put work up.

I really like the little robin hooded kid (with the hood) and the cowgirl from your commercial grouping.

and in your comic stuff, The Superman and wonder woman images are stelar.

but mostly...wht on earth don't you sculpt more!?!?!?! That Concrete is great!!! I like the thin marks to show the 'creases' for his armpits. The finish on him is great as well.

I think I'll post a scan of your exchange piece I got from the 1st holliday exchange.

You've been holding out on us, Ron! You should have posted this stuff a long time ago. I've been to your website many times, so I know what you're capable of doing, but the rest of the world needs to see your work!

I love those solid chunks of black you use in your inks! That most recent Hellboy (with Batman over his shoulder) looks like a woodcut. Very "groovy" style! Like everyone else, I really dig that Springsteen too. Your work looks much more dramatic in black and white, in my opinion.

That Concrete sculpt is wonderful! Who needs community theater when you can do this? Please do some more sculpting-- it helps your drawing, you know!

I'm glad you took my advice!:) That doesn't happen often... :(

Yay! I'm glad you followed JT's advice! (Hey JT, I've followed your sculpting advice!)

But speaking of sculpting, Concrete is FANTASTIC!! You HAVE been holding out!! ;)

Your other work is great too. I really like your inks and I demand more of them! I DEMAND IT, I SAY!! (This is what starting an art thread gets you. :p )

Those Art Exchange pics are great. wish I'd been a part of that one, but I was barely aware it was happening when it did :(. I would also like to see some more inked stuff!

Wow, Ron, what an impressive bunch of drawings. I love it all, including the commercial pieces. I'm glad you listened to John Thompson and started this thread (Thank for convincing him JT!)

Hey... thanks a lot to all for commenting... but it's time for some new stuff!!!

ast year I was really honoured to have participated in a big way with a very special project. It was an anthology comic by many varied folks to raise money for cancer research at two prominant Toronto hospitals... Princess Margaret and the Hospital for Sick Children... the whole story can be found here... http://www.benefitcomic.com and I implore you to check it out.

Aside from showing off my stuff here... we are trying to put together material for book 2... so if anyone want to contribute a 2 - 4 page story, dealing with health and wellbeing... cough... hellboy1... cough cough... Petersen... JT... Tad... cough cough... we'd LOVE to have you. Last year had a great list of contributors, from Chester Brown, to Moebius, to Stan Sakai, to Stuart Immonen... and loads more... so if interested, let me know!

Now then... here's my story... almost all of which I like.....

Great art, and a great cause too. You are a generous man, Ron.

I could possibly contribute something short, if there were any writers willing to work with me (... ruta?)

A lot would depend on how close the deadline was.

Holy crap!

I just went back and looked at the previous stuff there on page one. I think for the longest time I wasn't able to see it, so I never chimed in, but you have yourself another enormous fan. Those Hellboys are amazing! I love seeing him in a suit (a tux no less!), the Rockwell spin is great, and the little HB gettin a checkup is too cool.

Love the "cow"girl from the earlier stuff. Any chance of seeing it a little larger?

Please keep 'em coming, gotta see more!

Boy...

I am totally humbled by your attentions and praise... and I thank you all for it.

JT... and anyone else interested in contributing to the book... the deadline is in late October... so there is time... and it would be really cool to get a contingency of folks from this, the most welcoming board I've ever encountered, to be represented in the book.

Whoohoo! Ron Boyd cover art for the Corner Gas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corner_Gas) Season 3 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0397138/) DVD!!!

I like that Hank is Robin-esque. :)

Amazon has better resolution, but stickers all over the art and different colours in the art. What's up with that?

hey folks...

I haven't visited this thread in FOREVER... I missed the winter hat fun... sorry... but thanks for thinking of me J... I hope all is well with you these days....

I've been busy doing stuff... but the highlight, which I've not been allowed to mention was that I got to do 106 sketch cards for the Indiana Jones Heritage set!!! Indy was / is very influential in my life, and getting the chance to be a tiny part of the official "family" means a lot.

I'll post iamges of the cards here. Most of them I'm happy with... some of them I'm REALLY happy with and a few just make me cringe and want to crawl away... BUT... here they are for your viewing pleasure!!!

Wow. Great gig, Ron! I have so many friends doing these sketch cards for various properties these days. I'm sort of jealous but at the same time I sort of dread having to draw so many drawings in such a short span of time. (Most of the guys I know have pretty tight deadlines on these cards.)

It'll be fun to see the value of these cards skyrocket. They always do.
