few avengers questions

I am relatively new to The Avengers as they are now. I knew them 15 years ago. Anyway, I am looking for the TPB that has Thor giving his eyes and the whole Ragnarok happening and a friend said that he couldn't remember if it was a Thor comic arc or an avengers arc. Also, what are some essential TPB that I need to get for Avengers. I already have Ultimates Vol. 1 and love it.

Thor Disassembled is the TPB you are looking for to get the Ragnarok story.

If you just want to jump into the New Avengers you should start with Avenger Disassembled TPB.

But if you want to go back a few years grab the 2 Avengers Assembled hard covers. Great work by Busiek and Perez.

Yes, it's the Thor Dissembled trade that you want if you want to see how Thor ended his run. Doesn't have much to do with Avengers, though they guestar. The whole final six issues or so have a very odd feel to them, as if it is becoming more mythology and less comic superhero adventure.

It's not necessary to read the Thor trade to follow Avengers Dissembled...nor to understand either New Avengers nor Ultimates. In fact, other than in the Hercules mini series that's now running, the fact that Thor is missing has not even occurred to the Avengers. Thor was always popping off to Asgard without much explanation of his absences nor his motivations.... :rolleyes:
