Now I realize most consider Force Works to be a load of tosh. I only ever read the last issue myself, were Simon Williams was ressurected again. The team itself was a mid-nineties cash in on post-grim 'n' gritty, all cyber-punk visuals and morally dubious characters.
Century, resembling a corpse wearing face paint, was a 'mystery member' (much like our Ronin, on his/her way soon) an alien with strange powers who couldn't remember anything, a knock-back to Wolverine in the Avengers mold. I don't believe he even lasted the series.
What happened to him and does anyone think the character might have any further steam left?

If you put Century in a cosmic series, he could fair well. He might even do well in Fantastic Four or a classic version of Excalibur.

Century looked like he got lost and wandered in from another company's line-up, like Malibu or Image. I think he's dead, but I care about him as little as any of the other kewl characters introduced by Marvel in the early 90's.

After Force Works ended he was never seen again.
And while Century is my second favorite Marvel character of all times I prefer him in character limbo than Millar, Ellis or Bendis killing him off because they needed cannonfodder.
I would love a series with him though. Some sort of cosmic wanderer, exploring space et al. Could be cool.

Whatever became of him? I remember he was a "key" figure/member in Force Works, but the title stunk so badly that I dropped it before Marvel dropped it.:D
Anyone?

I remember he also had a one-shot, and guest starred on the Iron Man cartoon. :)
I actually thought he was a good character that has been relegated to limbo because so many people hate the 90's and characters that debuted during that time, although, I don't feel he is one of those characters that should be hated.
Yeah... Centrury came out at a BAD time. He was part of this huge wave of bad bad 90's comic characters. It's almost comparable to the big hair bands of the 80's.
He still exists out there somewhere as far as I know... it's possible a writer somewhere will take him down from the shelf, dust him off, and do something with him.
But for now, the most any Centry fans can do is appreciate the limbo as an alternative to being on some writers chopping block. Cause every so often some writer will get the idea to do some spring cleaning and clean out the characters in limbo a bit. That hasn't happened with Century yet.

Would I be banned if all I said in this post was that I humbly agreed, and so never bought any of those few issues??

I for one liked Century, thought Force Works was a good idea, but the execution was pedestrian. Not A&L's best work. Getting caught up in the Crossing didn't help either.

I don't think he's been around since his one-shot Distant Sons, but I may be mistaken. When he first appeared, he came off as the Marvel version of Pariah from DC's CoIE, but by the end of the series, he had actually become an intersting character. A little too '90s, perhaps-- origin shrouded in mystery, ill-defined powers, a staff-- but a character with potential. To me, at least, Force Works was not a bad book; there were a lot of good ideas, but it could never get past the fact that Wonder Man was wasted in its first issue, the poor, inconsistant art, and the Crossing. It seems to me that Century would be right at home in Annilhation, not in the front line, but coordinating retreats and caring for the wounded. In truth, the alien race he served as herald both look and act a lot like the Annhilation Swarm.

I gotta agree. This used to drive me CRAZY when Marvel would do this.
A hero or character would arrive, with ill-defined background... the Avengers or X-men would welcome them into t heir midst... and then, sometime later... when the writer got around to it... or thought one up... we'd get some convoluted origin....
I prefer to know my characters when they are introduced... not after a cool concept is introduced (like "Cable") but no background provided.
Exception: Layla Miller in X-factor. Clearly, she was plotted from the start, and has been revealed by degrees in each subsequent issue. Nicely executed.
