What do you think of our homicidal maniac alien?

i thought he was alright at first, but that was only because Venom was on his way to becoming an anti-hero. now that Venom is pretty much a bad guy again, i think it's better off he's dead, leaving room for Venom to hopefully become the great villain he used to be and Toxin to be the new good guy vigilante symbiote.

I think he's a great character. When used properly. When he really IS a homicidal maniac with an organic supersuit. When he's absolutely nuts and rampaging through a city, killing mass amounts of people. In really sick ways. THAT'S the Carnage I know and love.

My philosophy is that any homicidal maniac related to Venom is a friend of mine

He was cool... but now Venom is evil again he's useless.
Although, Toxin does rule.

Carnage is intresting because he's a type of villian Spidey has never faced before. A complete irredemiable psychopath. Carnage doesn't ahve grandplans, schemes for revenge, or anything like that. he just goes out and the bodies start piling up.

I can see why Carnage is a cool concept, because of the whole irredeemable super-powered psycho killer thing, which does distinguish him from other villains, but I also think that due to this simplicity he only really has a couple of stories in him... To be honest, he could have died at the end of Maximum Carnage and I'm not sure we'd have missed a single worthwhile comic book.

Carnage started as a great concept. But writers totally screwed him up over the yrs. At this point, at least he went out witha bang (or a rip).

I'll go with good character.
He just hasn't been used right recently.
I can think of 3 good stories involving Carnage.
1. He becomes obsessed with Daredevil.
2. He goes on another killing spree, maybe killing some Bugle workers, or kids at Peter's school. Spider-Man angrily brings him down, and ponders killing him.
3. Carnage is redeemed, this justifying Spider-Man's belief that even villains are worth saving.

Were they real stories? Because if they are I might want to try and find them.

What irks me is that if symbiotes feed off adrenaline, then how are Toxin and Carnage feeding off their hosts? Is it only the Venom symbiote that requires adrenaline?

It was established right from the beginning that by being born on earth, Carnages's symbite is vastly different from Venoms.

Weren't numbers two and three pretty much explored in Maximum Carnage? Give them credit, they had fourteren parts, they did stuff. I'm pretty sure Spidey did at least spend quite a lot of time pondering the ethics of killing him.
I do actually see your point on number one though. The one remaining angle for Carnage might be to have him face other heroes and see how they react to him. I don't know if becoming obsessed with DD would work, but I would quite like to see how Murdock deals with Kasady.

Milligan's mini Venom/Carnage that introduced Toxin and the Toxin mini are both great, IMO.

Toxin is handling continuity fine.
But Venom/Carnage... yeah... I don't know when the hell that was supposed to take place...

marginal character. he should have died and stayed dead after maximum carnage. he (as a character) cant really live up to what he is supposed to be (a homicidal killer with an alien suit) in the regular marvel comic format, with the regular mu confines.

I can sleep with knowing they F'ed up Black Cat's history with them and that symbiotes only produce kids only X amount of years.
Minor contunuity things shouldn't bother your expirences with a decent story.

out of curiosity is the symbiote really dead. I mean hasnt the various symbiotes been torn apart before only able to reform. So cletus Kassidy is really dead. He was torn in half but couldnt the two halves of the symbiote be floating around in space right now.

At first I was going to say he was alright...then I voted "Not needed." Let's face it, do we really want another "Joker" running around? Joker has done a ton of evil things, and I've read even hardcore Batman fans would like to see the character killed...or at least his crimes seriously avenged. I don't want that type of villain in the Spiderman universe. Carnage had his 15 minutes of fame, and now he needs to go the way of the dodo. We don't need a horrible killer and monster constantly going in and out of the rotating door of some stupid asylum.

I think Carnage should get a MAX title told from his point of view.
A demented serial killer who completely mutilates the bodies of his victims.
It would play great in Iowa.

Most deaths have an out in comics... so he could return but right now he's just not needed.

Bendis later came back and said there were lots of clones and stuff in that facility. it was probably his way of covering up how so many dead villians showed up and why Carnage was totally wrong.

It sucked how the Sentry just killed Carnage the way he did in New Avengers, it made Carnage look so weak.

agreed i loved carnage too back when he was introduced and some years later because he was so sick and twisted. but the ultimate version of carnage has got to be the most terribly done, worst played out arc i have ever read in the series...actually in all carnage history that is the black sheep

1. Did anyone else find the Venom vs. Carnage mini-series hard to look at? The art inside seemed to hurt my brain.
2. As I think there is something really definitely scary about Joker in the DC Universe, I think Carnage had that same fear. He could do anything for any reason. We didn't really have other Spidey villians like that.
3. As has been said, when Venom was anti-hero, Carnage was good to have around because there was a lot to explore with the three characters (Spidey, Venom and Carnage). But now...eh, I was fine with Sentry having his fun.
