a friend of mine and I were discussing GLA and it dawned on me that I have no idea.
Wasn't she created by Ditko?

Nope it was Ditko. The story is reprinted in the recent Steve Ditko visionaries Hardcover from Marvel, if you want to see the story in oversized HC format.

Ditko also drew the DragonLord story that appeared (in of all places) in Fantastic Four Annual #15 (I believe). A character that changed the role of Dragon Man drastically, but then totally ignored this in continuity. Perhaps it was a filler, but it was presented as a real story in the FF annual.
Now, what I want to know is WHERE can you find a copy of that first SquirelGirl appearance/story, without shelling out an arm and a leg. Was Monkey Joe also a part of it? Or was he a recent GLA add-on?
I know that Squirel girl has been reprinted in the Hardbound Ditko Visionaries, but I'm not interested in shelling out big bucks. I just want to read the original appearance. Once. Maybe I'd be interested in picking up just a reprint of the original Superheros #8 if it were reprinted... but if it hasn't, do these issues EVER come up on ebay or elsewhere? In the classifieds of CBG?
Help please!

Monkey Joe was a part of the original story. He refers to his role in that story in GLA #3.

You're wrong. It was Ditko. In an Iron-Man story.

What else was included in that issue? Multiple stories? Stock stories? one-shots? Anything in continuity? Fill-in material gathering dust in a drawer somewhere?

Squirrel Girl showed up, tried to impress Iron Man so that she could be his side-kick, he wasn't impressed. Dr. Doom attacked, short-circuited IM's armour, and KO'd Squirrel Girl. He took them onto his ship and locked them up. IM's armour was all screwy, but SG opened a vent and called to her squirel friends, who cam, beat up Doom, and rescued them.
