That was a fascinating show. I really had no idea crab fishing was so dangerous. 6 people lost their lives this year alone, but of course for 5 days work paychecks ranged from $10,000 and change on the smaller boats to $27,000 on the larger so I can see why they take the risk.

This year also marks the end of "derby" style crabbing. Meaning next year quotas will be distributed among the boats based on previous seasons catches, they think that'll make it safer if crews aren't going without sleep for days on end to catch as much as possible.

this was just a longer version, 'movie' about what was discovered years ago on the same (i think) network. though it can be kinda interesting, there's nothing, ultimately that interesting about a bunch of greedy people putting themselves and others in obviously dangerous situations while basically mass killing animals for feed.

there's nothing to be admired here. the quotas are probably in place b/c the crab are running out and the people are waaay too ridiculous to risk expensive coast guard equipment over.

do i feel sorry for the bullfighter who gets mauled, no. do i feel sorry for the mountain skiers/hikers who go where they are not supposed to and end up getting stranded, having to get coptered out of harms way, no. do i feel sorry for these guys, no.
