Please forgive my ignorance. I've been out of the Batman loop for a while and I have a quick question. I searched the forums for an answer to this question and couldn't find one.
Where is the Joker in current DC Continuity? I've noticed he's not in the current Villains United storyline. I know he played a large role in Hush, but I didn't follow that storyline.
In fact, the last Joker storyline I read was The Last Laugh miniseries several years ago.
Would someone please bring me up to date on Batman's arch-arch-nemesis?
And, if you could give me a brief run-down of the Joker's most recent character history (what he's been up to) I'd really appreciate it. My friend asked me this question the other day and I didn't have an answer for him.
Thanks for your time!

Well last I saw in Batman #638
The Red Hood almost beat him to within an inch of his life with a crowbar at the very end of the issue. Since then haven't seen him.

He hasn't been around for awhile. But I have the feeling that he's coming back in a big way. A VERY big way. :evilsmile

Yeah, The Joker was last seen hiding out in an amusement park. The new Red Hood found him, and pretty much came close to killing The Joker with a crowbar.
Batman shows up, and it's revealed that The new Red Hood is actually his once-thought-dead Boy Wonder, Jason Todd.
He hasnt been seen since, but his return should be very interesting. :evilsmile
Oh, and check out The Man who Laughs one shot, if you havent already. It re-tells the first encounter Batman has with The Joker.
Good stuff.

Yeah and before all that Hush beat him within an inch of his life. Thing's aren't going Joker's way right now, but like 1Hellboy said, he's coming back in a big way...

Coming back in a big way, huh?
Are these predictions based on some clue in one of the current books, or do you think he's coming back just because, well, it's about time?
Could he be the mysterious Mockingbird in Villains United? This whole question of his current status was brought up by the fact that my friend and I are following that miniseries and we can't believe that a book about the DCU's villains would not have The Joker playing a major role.

Joker will fight Black Mask and Batman, according to DC info, in the next Batman/Detective crossover, "War Crimes".

How much material have you read with the Joker in it?

A lot, I'd say. I used to pick up any book he was featured in. But I kinda stopped doing that after The Last Laugh storyline which was years ago. Why?

Maybe because it wasn't his last laugh, surely. ANd it kind of sucked. Damn, I remember throwing down all that money.. Argh. Remember it crossed over into tons of DC books? DC was the one who was laughing at the suckers who were tailing the whole story!

Then you should know. Joker has a tendency of making very LARGE(and deadly) returns. :evilsmile
