Last week's Family Guy, and now on Simpsons (I have to change the channel), why must all this singing occur? The melodies aren't catchy and the lyrics aren't clever enough to carry the song.
Why do they keep doing this?

They sing all the time on the Simpsons. Personally I find the monorail song very catchy.
And Batman sang once on the Justice League. He wasn't bad either.
