anyone know if the new conan series has any trades out? for some reason i can't find any except a HC that i don't think is even a compilation of the new series (or is it?). appreciate it... been reading some of the new ones but want to go back and get some history.

Here's a link to the first volume of the new series:

http://www.darkhorse.com/profile/profile.php?sku=13-029

I liked the first 6 stories the most - they're a real treat.

EDIT: Ack - that's the hard cover . . . Amazon has it at a softcover price though (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1593073011/qid=1118510928/sr=8-2/ref=pd_csp_2/002-3905816-7819251?v=glance&s=books&n=507846)

sweet - i saw that but wasn't sure if it was original stories or the compilation of issues from the new series (which is what i wanted). that amazon link is to a soft cover i think - but still on point. thanks a ton (you've been helping me all over the place this morning winslow!).

this is what threw me off (from the amazon description): "The popular barbarian is back in full-color painted adaptations of the original pulp novels by Robert E. Howard."

Your welcome!

Yeah - the orginal Conan was a fantasy character from short stories collected into novels written by Robert E. Howard.

The first 6 issues were adaptations of Howard's works - and are collected in the trade.

When Busiek branched off into his own interprepretive work (stories about characters that aren't in the novels but are mentioned) ~ I enjoyed the series less. But hey - its still getting great reviews at comic sites - and the art has a very Frank Frazetta feel to it - and I love Frank - he's the best fantasy artist ever.

Yeah - the orginal Conan was a fantasy character from short stories collected into novels written by Robert E. Howard.

Not really -- a collection of short stories isn't a novel, it's a collection of short stories. As such, there's only one Conan novel written by REH, and a bunch of short stories.

But that description as written by Publishers Weekly, not Dark Horse; they just got it wrong.

The first 6 issues were adaptations of Howard's works - and are collected in the trade.

Of the first 6 issues, only #2 is an adaptation of a Howard story. The rest are new material, built around the outline of Conan's life established and implied by the stories.

To be absolutely clear, yes, "The Frost Giant's Daughter" is Vol. 1 collecting #0-6, and half of #7 of the current ongoing series.

You might also want to know Vol. 2 "The God in the Bowl" collecting #7, 9-14 will be coming out in September.

And they are available as softcovers.

it seems that all mailordercomics.com has for sept. is the HC of vol. 2. do they release the TPB after the HC to try and increas HC sales? is it worth waiting (will it be weeks or months or what?). does anyone own the first HC and could convince me to just buy the HC for vol. 2? i love this title!!!!

Hmmm, that's strange. The Previews solicitation indeed only lists the HC for $24.95. But the Dark Horse web site only lists the TB for $15.95 also to be released on Sept 28. It also lists both HC and TB for Vol. 1 which were released at the same time. My guess is the TB will be released after the HC comes out. Unless you're a die-hard fan and collector, I'd rather save my money for more comics (or other things).

oh yeah the first TPB is awesome in my opinion... on of the best overall books i've read since resuming my addiction a few months ago... cannot wait for vol. 2 (in september for God's sakes - seems like an eternity.

Definately looking forward to the next hardcover.
Somebody mentioned above the issues which were to be included, but I noticed that issue #8 wasn't in that list.
Any particular reason they wouldn't reprint this issue?

Any particular reason they wouldn't reprint this issue?Issue #8 was a break in the timeline of the series to tell the first part of a story about Conan's childhood. It was great by the way. They will be doing those stories periodically during the series and hopefully will collect the childhood story when it is completed.

Are there any extra content in Conan Volume 1: The Frost Giant's Daughter and other stories TPB that weren't in the individual issues?

I would pick it up if it does as well as having them all in one neat package free of printing errors ;)

There's a biographical article on Howard plus some sketches of Nord's.

I noticed that Conan Vol2 wasn't at my LCS today. Has this trade been pushed back?
