View Full Version : I have angry friends...
Actually they seem more surprised than angry when I tell them I've never seen movies that they consider classics. A few examples: I've never seen Goonies, The Princess Bride, Dark Crystal, Neverending Story, no Jaws films, Legend, Clash of the Titans, Labyrith (sp), Bad News Bears, no Indiana Jones films, and Romancing the Stone.
And they all have the same expression on their faces. So I suppose I should watch a few of these just to see what the appeal of them is.
Any one else have this problem?

Yeah... But I usually fake it by pretending to see movies and read books I never have.
I feel guilty about it and I'm trying to stop but I just get sick of being told what I have to read/watch when I'm fine deciding that for myself.

ROSS,
You've got to admit, it's a little odd that you've never seen any of those films. If you grew up in the eighties, you almost had to go out of your way to have missed them all. Did you see any movies growing up?
Odder still considering that you like comics enough to post online about them. That genre of film seems to go hand in hand with being a comic fan.

Out of that list, I've only seen the Princess Bride & the Indiana Jones movies (each very good, btw). I've seen the first half hour of Goonies and quickly tossed it into the fire. (My roomates weren't happy about that). I've never seen any Godfather movie. THe only mafia flick I've seen was Goodfellas, and I couldn't stand it. I just gave up ten minutes before it ended.

Most of those films that you listed are "ok" (IMO) but are not "classics". The only ones that I'd consider as "classics" are the Indiana Jones films (although I thought the 2nd one was just ok), Jaws, and The Princess Bride.
There are so many great lines in the Princess Bride. It always brings a smile to my face.

I suppose those types of movies didn't interest me much back then. I should add some of them on Netflix. I don't recall going to the movies very much in the 80's. All I did was go to school, read comics, and watch TV.

I've tried pretending that I've seen of them but then my friends ask me questions about the movies that I can't answer. Mostly to recite dialogue from them.

And that's as good an excuse as any to start quoting Princess Bride!

OMG!?!?!?!
You've never seen Labyrinth???!?!??
You need to see it for David Bowie's paedophile ways.

Wait a minute...is that the movie that has David Bowie tossing a baby around to a couple of creatures in a castle or some place? And singing the entire time? If it is, then I've seen it.
