why do u think a writer wouldnt tell his name ?
the brotherhood wasnt so good but that doesnt mean anything .
i think that he was a big name who tried to do something different without facing the consequences of failure

Because it was Howard Mackie, probably. Or some other writer who knew he had a less-than-stellar reputation among X-fans, but wanted to try something new without any preconceptions coloring people's opinions. And then when it wasn't successful, didn't want credit for it.

Dunno why, but I've been under the assumption that it was Mackie.....I thought that it had been revealed.

It was Steve Ditko. And until you can find me a picture of the two of them together, prove me wrong.
