So who saw this trainwreck last week?

Poor Loverboy got all fat. Seeing them try to rock out was hilarious!
Anyone else think that Tiffany was Pregnant?
And A Flock of Seagulls.....damn.

And what was with the giant host...he must have been 7 feet tall...The singers looked like Hobbits next to him...

If you haven't heard of this show, the basic premise is that they bring a bunch of one hit wonders to compete for another chance at glory. They play their signature hit and then come back and sing a cover of a new hit song.
Check out the official site (www.nbc.com/Hit_Me_Baby/)

This week has Vanilla Ice! And he's doing a cover of Destiny's Child's Survivor!!!! Now that is going to be so brutally awesome!

Other performers tonight include The Knack (My Sharona), The Motels (Only the Lonely), Tommy Tutone (867-5309) and Haddaway (What is Love?)

This show is comedy gold. Y'all should check it out on NBC at 9pm Eastern.

I had not heard of this, but I'm gonna have to check it out. This sounds far too interesting to pass up. The lead singer from the Motels was hot back in the day...who knows how she looks now.

It is far too interesting to pass up! They also do a little vignette where they catch up with the artist after all these years.....which is both funny and depressing at the same time....

Julie was telling me about this last week and so we decided to check it out. I don't know that it's hilarious so much as it is sort of pathetic and depressing. I guess it depends on where your cruelty threshold is. We are getting kind of tired of shows where people are clearly just being set up to be made fun of on national television.

That said, what was interesting to us was not only how everybody looks now, which is the main morbid-curiosity draw of the show, but also seeing the performers that could actually pull it off. We were amazed by Tiffany, for example, who looks to have become a talented B-list country-rock kind of singer. I don't know that we'd run right out and buy her record, but if we were at a club and she came out and played a set, we'd enjoy it. You know, about that level.

Loverboy we knew about because they're always playing casinos and stuff up here in and around Seattle and have a fairly devoted following. After seeing them play, we were more mystified by that than ever... I mean, my brother-in-law plays in a better club band than them.

A Flock of Seagulls was scary bad. Note: if you are a band that had a couple of hits in the 80's that were driven by synthesized overproduction, don't accept a challenge to be on a "Battle of the Bands" show playing LIVE, because you WILL embarrass yourselves.

Arrested Development was our pick for the winner -- we figured it was between them and Tiffany, and they did better at winding up the crowd. And as I pointed out to Julie, "Those are the only two that aren't lugging colostomy bags on stage with them."

We probably will check it out again tonight. Julie's really into it, she loves the "where are they now" aspect of it. I am a little curious about the Knack and the Motels myself.

The guy who hosted in the British version of the show was Vernon Kaye (http://www.markthomasphotos.com/portraitsgallery7.html) . He is a big, tall, lankey streak of piss from Bolton.

His missus Tess Daly (http://www.celebrities411.com/TessDaly/) isn't bad though.

That works. Thanks, Sheldon. Some serious retro-ness and nostalgia going on in my head right about now.

Oh, I don't know. He can be quite amusing at times.

Granted, that's when he's on the radio, but he can be raise a smile then.

I loved this trainwreck last week. Arrested Development was excellent though and I heard an interview before this came on where they talked about how they didn't care if it was cheesy if they could make some money for charity they would do it. Classy. I'm glad they won their round.

My feelings on Tiffany were much they same as they were when I was a teenager and she first came on the scene. I don't care for her music but I'd still hit it.

I'm happy to say that The Romantics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Romantics) were reportedly considered and rejected from this show because the producers found them too competent, too exciting, and too unpathetic for the show. :)

It's hard to fit the bill of "washed-up" act when you've had a critically acclaimed (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:5azsa9wgw238) (if not commercially successful) record out within the past two years.

I have to admit...Vanilla Ice came out and gave a great cover of that rap song. I'm shocked at how great It came across.

At least Ice was good natured about it all. Nothing like the meltdown he had on VH1 where he went after the master copy of his "Ice, Ice Baby" video like it stole his lunch money!

Bobby Sherman would be pretty funny to see on the show, but I have to call foul on Justin Guarinni - you have to at least have ONE HIT to be on this. If I miss my guess, his career flamed before his first single hit the charts.

The funny thing is that I liked it more than the real version. Maybe because they dropped the Lust for Life ripoff opening.

Seriously. What's up with the asshole trend in television lately, the "let's roll out some people and mock them, hahaha, you're all so sad, hahaha".

Screw that crap. I refuse to be that kind of jackass, even in a passive sense.

Wow. Is that what you see it as? I see it as a chance to see bands/singers who we haven't seen or heard from in a while do old favs and take a crack at covering new tunes. Just because some people have fun putting them down that doesn't mean it was the purpose for putting the show on the air.

I kinda like the show but if they made any sort of an effort the show could be so much better. They announce a winner at the end of every show but no one seems to care. I would love to see the winners take on other bands/singers in a head to head type battle. I'd like to see the winners come back the next week. I'd bet that could be as big as AMERICAN IDOL if they structured it correctly.
