Deadpool's name

Hey i've been reading Deadpool for a very long time now, and it never occured to me that his name,
WADE WILSON,
sounds oddly familiar to Deathstroke,
SLADE WILSON!!!
Now i'm guessing that i'm not the first person to notice this, so i wanted to know...

Is the similarity because...
Someone at marvel was takin the piss when they created deadpool?
Purely co-incidental?

Or has this name similarity been discussed before? Have I just been unable to find an older thread?
Anyway just the other similarities... MERCENARIES!!!
Code names (DEAD/DEATH)
And there costumes are kinda (not much though) similar

Magnum Force would have been a great name.

The simliarity between him and Deathstroke is a pretty commonly known thing....Liefeld is a teen titans fanboy.

Considering how easily Cable dispatched Deadpool in their first meeting, I think Rob was trying to emphasize what a bad-ass Cable was...

They made a joke about this in the CDP letters page.

Someone suggested a Deadpool/Deathstroke crossover, and "Deadpool" commented that Fabian Nicieza was too insecure to compare his own work to Gail Simone's. He then said, "And Nicole says our lawyers don't want DC to notice the similarities. I don't know what that means." :D

For the record, Wade Wilson is not Deadpool's real name. It's an..."adopted name," shall we say?

His real name is Jack. His last name hasn't been revealed. :)

Wilson was the name of a man he killed, in an atempt to steal his identity. The plan backfired, and Jack ended up killing his first person he concidered to be truly innocent: Wade Wilson's wife.

Wanting to die, but mentally unable to kill himself, Wade went crazy and adopted the identity anyway.

Deadpool is Liefeld's costume redesign for DC's Deathstroke. Liefeld made a Titans pitch to DC in the late 80's, and it was rejected. So he brought a few of his ideas to New Mutants, and the rest to his Young Blood book. That is why Shaft and some of the other Young Blood characters look like Titans rip-offs.
