A few months ago I came in here and asked for fantasy recommendations and was told to read George R.R Martin's A Game of Thrones.

My reaction: WOW!!

What an amazing book! I lent it to my Dad and he was blown away as well.

Thanks so much for the recommendations! If anyone can think of anything else let me know please!

Have you read the entire series?

Book 2 is "A Clash of Kings"
Book 3 is "A Storm of Swords"

And you started the series at the right time because Mr. Martin announced a week ago the the fourth book "A Feast for Crows" is finished and will be out in Nov.

If you love the first book keep reading. They only get better.

Also, there is novella-length prequel, called The Hedge Knight, set several decades or maybe a century before the events of A Game of Thrones. It's very good, and the Dark Horse tpb version is nice, too. I heard there was a sequel, don't know if that's out yet.

I think The Hedge Knight is set 50 years before ASoIaF. Some of the Targaryens that show up in the story are the same ones conquered by Robert prior to the beginning of A Game of Thrones.

I haven't read it yet myself, but I believe the sequel is in the "Legends II" anthology out on shelves now. I don't know if it's truly a sequel about Dunk though, or just another short story set in Westeros.

I'm working on the 2nd book now. I was completely blown away by the first one. Can't wait to read them all. If only I had 36 hours in my day...

The sequel to the Hedge Knight is in Legends 2, it's called the Sworn Sword and yes it is about Dunk and Egg as well :). I didn't find it to be as good as The Hedge Knight but it was great to read more about Dunk.

I just wish someone else would read The Darkness That Comes Before around here, I really can't do justice to how good The Prince of Nothing series is shaping up to be. I guess this must be how the first few people to read A Game of Thrones felt.
