View Full Version : Would "A Death in the Family" be too hard to tell on screen to do for the second film

With a few plot adjustments, I thought it would be interesting.
We could see The Joker at his worst (which is a good thing as a reader) then seeing Batman become this self hating guilt machine that he was afterword.
Though if these are supposed to be prequels, having Dick already move on to being Nightwing would be kinda wierd?

I think it would be too much to tell so soon.
If Nolan really wanted to include Robin into the new Batman franchise, I wouldnt have much of a problem with it.
But to insert Robin as early as the next sequel is a case of throwing in too much, too soon I'm afraid.

When would be the right time then?

Maybe by the third movie.
Like a sub-plot with Dick, and what happens to his parents. Not sure if Dick in a Robin costume should happen by the third film though.

Are these supposed to be prequals? I was hoping that they were just taking the Batman movie franchise and starting over, at the beginning ignoring the previous films.

They shouldn't kill Robin in the same film they introduce him in. TBH though the only thing it should have in common with the original story is killing Robin because A Death in the Family was crap.

I think that these new movies are rebooting the franchise, in that any previously used villains will be re-invented. So it's not exactly a straight up prequel so much as it is a franchise reboot.

Way to hard. Maybe if you used a second film to set up jason todd and the joker characters you could set Death in the family up as the third.

Nah, this would have to come quite far down the line. Grayson isn't even in the first film, and introducing him and having him move to Nightwing, then introducing Drake would be at least two/three films do be done even at a rush. I also don't think that studios would want to do the parts involving the Terrorists due to the current political climate.

What the hell would be the point? The impact of the story was that Todd was an established character, they're not going to introduce him just to be killed off.

Also, they aren't prequels, they are a new continuity to the old films.

exactly, it was a rubbish story, and with the terrorists etc it won't be made now in today's climate. And you wouldn't be able to vote for how the movie ended.

24 features terrorist's kidnapping and attempted execution of the Secretary of Defense, a terrorist hijacking a fighter jet and flying into Air Force One with the President on board, and the motherlode, nuclear weapons in the hands of terrorists.
So Joker selling missiles to terrorists isn't gonna be disallowed.

But 24 is serious show, it won't feature someone with a constant clown face being made ambassador of Iran. Anyway, they'll never make a film that follows one of the comci storylines word-for-word, especially a dated one.
actually i think if you want dick in the next film its doable.
you only need the death of his family at the circus during the second or third act. have bruce adopt him by the end
by the next film you can have the situation that bruce doesnt want the kid fighting crime with him but he proves himself worthy and the dynamic duo is created.
with harvey as two face in part 3 i think it could actually work

If they did it (which I doubt) it'd probably be the first Robin (whether that's Dick or jason) that they kill. They wouldn't wait around for the first one to become nightwing and then bring in a second to kill him.
Of course the big thing stopping them doing it would be that the film would have to stop three quarters of the way through while everyone phones in to decide whether or not to kill him!

Yeah I guess, but I think there are other stories that would be much better, like doing the introduction of Robin properly, like in Dark Victory.. It could be done really well if what i've read about the atmosphere of the new film is true, with the dubious morality of letting a young (ish) child put his life in danger by fighting alongside Batman, rather than him just being someone to crack jokes or be eye candy for teenagers.
