I used to read x-men back in the joe mad days when gambit's secret was revealed, I drifted away shortly after "Revolution" began and converted to
DC where the bat keeps me happy.

But I miss those freakin' muties......can ya'll help me out?

Well.... maybe he means the recent 'Age of Apocalypse'.

*Beast manages to lose any shred of respect for Fishtaco, if so.* :D

No, definitely not the new AOA, unless if Im not admitting that I like ninja psychics jumping out of nowhere, Chris Bachalo, AOA Silver Samurai, ethnocentrism, and a slew of continuity mistakes...

The AOA One-Shot was good however, and so was the Exiles crossover issues. The main Yoshida Mini-Series makes Baby Beasty cry. :(

The AoA one shot was cool, the mini-series was a waste of paper and ink. Hmm recent stories that were good...

Chasing Hellfire
Gifted
The Cruelest Cut
The End of History

Chris Bachalo...

Bachalo was the best part of Yoshida's AOA.

The last story (by Yoshida) was okay, but then the rest of the mini might actually dethrone The Draco in the vomiting department.

Bachalo was the best part of Yoshida's AOA.Yeah, it was the best part, but it still was rubbish nonetheless. Bachalo was ok on Generation X, but now he's...worsened. Is that a word?

Bachalo's work has evolved over the years, but it is still better than 90% of anything else out there at the moment.

I myself can't see any change in Bachalo's work from late Gen X to the new (and Eeew) AoA, but then again, the inker himself can make all the differnce...

I even picked up Bachalo's Steampunk (Biggest mistake I ever did!) but I loved his work on the otherwise 'best-well-left-alone-project' AoA..only reason I picked it up!

I'll disagree with that. Hopefully he's not rushed, so his Uncanny work doesn't end up sloppy. He's one of my least favorite artists at the moment. But on the bright side, it's not Kaare Andrews. :)

Same here. And some of the fill-in inkers on the AOA mini made his work look rushed and sloppy. The only inkers that did his work justice were Townsend and Vey :( .

I love Grant's New X-Men storyarcs, most of them anyways:

E is for Extinction
Germ Free Generation
Imperial
Riot at Xaviers
Murder at the Mansion
Planet X
and Here Comes Tomorrow

Whedon's Gifted was very good as well.

Recent arcs?

I'd start with Astonishing X-Men and Gifted

For pure, unadulterated fun, Cable & Deadpool, The Burnt Offereing

I'd also put a plug in for Nightcrawler, The Devil Inside

I'm not a Morrison fan, but he does write some powerful stories.

Just please, whatever you do, ignore The Draco. I mean, I could even stomach the exploding communion wafers, but...

I'd reiterate Here Comes Tomorrow, X-Men #151-154 (entitled New X-men at the time), its a future possible story so don't expect a cast you're used to but it is extremely well written & with Silvestri on art you can't go too wrong either. It helps to have a general idea of what Morrison did with his time though. If you do decide to start with E for Extinction (#114-116) just be prepared for something very different - I hated it initialy and still don't like it much now but his stuff as a whole is definatly up there.

Best recent arcs....

New X-Men #114-126- the huge Cassandra Nova mega arc collected in the first New X-Men hardcover.
New X-MEn #127-154- this is a huge X-Men arc, but it does tell one consistent story, once you realize who the villain is.
Wolverine #1-6- Especially for the beserker rage at the end.
Wolverine #20-25- A brainwashed Wolverine VS. The Marvel Universe. Fun violent action tale.

Ultimate X-Men: The Tomorrow People- The X-Men, Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Wolverine, Weapon X, and the Sentinels crammed together in a single kick-ass action movie.
Ultimate X-Men #7-12 "Return to Weapon X"- The Ultimate Weapon X does nasty things to the X-Men. The conclusion's a bit weak, but the villains, and situations the X-Men are put into are perfectly nasty.
Ultimate War, Ultimate X-Men "Return of the King"- A decent battle with the Ultimates, and an epic showdown with Magneto. It may be worth waiting for the upcoming Barnes & Noble Mega-hardcover reprinting Millar's entire run for a fraction fo the cost of the current trades.
Ultimate X-Men #46-49- Brian K. Vaughn's run begins with a solid quieter story pitting the X-Men against a serial killer version of Mister Sinister. His later stories consistently surprise me with their quality.
The Milligan/ Allred X-Force Hardcover-
Whedon & Cassady's Gifted- Good writing & creative team, and the most amazing art in comics.

Huzzah!

E for extinction
riot at xaviers (the point Morrison should have stopped writing)
schism
Invasion (which i think is criminally underrated)

I really miss Lobdell and Mad's Uncanny. The scene with Joseph kissing Rogue on the forehead was priceless, even if they miscolored the tears welling up in her eyes.

But what do you mean by helping you out? Do you want recommended arcs, like everyone's been doing, or do you just want an update so you can pick up the current issues? What are you actually looking for?
