From this week's Lying In The Gutters (http://www.comicbookresources.com/columns/?column=13):The Kubert Brothers' exclusive deal with DC Comics was announced at the weekend. What was not announced was that they will be working on the 'Detective Comics' series, with scripts written by Grant Morrison. Expect official confirmation over the summer. Neither DC Comics or Grant Morrison responded to inquiries. Andy Kubert could not respond to questions about future projects.Hot diggity!

That would make me exceedingly happy.

That would mean they start in January? Or maybe after, dealing with Crisis repercussions.

Well, it would definitely make me pick Detective back up. If we keep winick on Bats, i think that the bat-titles might go back to the glory that they were when it was a few years ago.

Finally, some good news from DC. It will be interesting to see how well Morrison works with the Bat Office. There's a reason why some of the "hotter" writers at DC never really spent any time writing an ongoing Bat Title.

Ditto for me. But then I don't like anything Morrison does.

I have to say that I would be interested to see if Morrison could pull off writing a Batman that is grounded in Gotham since I think that Rucka really exemplified what Detective should be which is Batman interacting with primarily the organized crime elements of Gotham. This is where the detective skills of Batman should shine and the interaction with the GCPD should be most obvious. Morrison wrote the superhero elements of Batman in JLA let's see if he can write the detective/urban crimefighter elements of Batman.

If we keep Winnick on Batman and Morrison goes nuts on Batman we may not recognize Batman!
One will be a HIV patient and the other fighting aliens!
Morrison could actually make Batman interesting again. I haven't like DC's take on Batman since before Identity Crisis.

I love everything Morrison' does...
Except Arkham Asylum. Hopefully he's not going that route again.
Still, heck, it's Morrison. I'll buy it.

I wouldn't worry. I doubt very much that he'll write Batman as the godlike character he is in JLA. I think that style of Batman is reserved for the big stories where he mixes with other superheroes

I wouldn't mind seeing some weirdness, as long as the emphasis is on Batman's Detective skills. We might even see more of Bruce Wayne. I'm worried about how well Morrison is going to mesh with the Bat Editorial staff since that office is notorious for having a rigid set of rules that handcuffed the character and the world around him. Then again, the fact that Judd Winnick is writing Batman (personally I don't like his work) may be a sign that things are loosening up a bit, paving the way for a possible Morrison run (remember, it's not a fact until the first issue is on the stands).

I was hoping at least one of the Kuberts would show up on a Batman title. With Morrison. Kewl.

Ditto what Shadow has said.
(If I stated my true feelings , I'd be banned from the board for using objectional language)

If I'm not mistaken I think Shadow means Morrison's 'visionary' (ie. weird for weirds sake) style of writing.
I was so happy with Kubert comming on board, now this news of Morrison has just completely deflated that news.

i'm not a fan of Kubert's work, but i'll have to buy this 'cause i'm a huge fan of Morrison. hopefully he'll stay on it longer than just one story arc, which was all he did on flash if my memory serves me. i wouldn't worry about this batman being similar to his arkham asylum batman ( too vertigo ) or his JLA batman for reasons already posted.

I'm excited. I loved Batman in Morrison's JLA run. Throw some great art on it too? I'll be subscribing to Detective again if it's true.

I liked Morrison's run on JLA, but I don't much care for his other stuff. The Kuberts excite me so we'll just have to wait and see.

I'm sceptical of this happening.
Morrison has indicated in interviews that AS Superman will be his last mainstream comics work.

I hope it's true. If only if Batman can break open the Sci Fi Closet once more. I need more Bat UFO action.

I just hope it doesn't turn out to be like Hush. In the way that everyone hypes it up to such a degree that it's impossible for the story to live up to the hype, thus everyone begins to rag on it.

I'm excited about Morrison, but not so much as Kubert. I love Kubert's Marvel stuff, but I just can't see him on Detective. I'm sure I'll love it either way though. :D

Morrison's too cool!!!! I love his Uber badass Batman, now maybe he can do something cool with Prometheus instead of having him Job to Hush like no other.

Hooray, a reason to stop buying Detective, if they could just get Morrison to write some other titles i could give up on comics all together.

How about in the way that DC hires a couple of well-known, yet only moderately talented people, hypes their story up, and then the end product ends up being a contrived piece of garbage? ;)

I guess the upcoming editorial shift -- Matt Idelson taking over from Bob Shreck -- explains why Morrison is doing Detective Comics.
The plot thickens.

Tomasi's taking over Tec and Batman, Idelson's taking over Superman.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat, and I'm not really a bat fan (the only bat books I'm buying right now are Gotham Central, and the Legends of the Dark Knight Snow story arc.)
