It could be her kid brother, who was born recently... but Honor does indeed get pregnant in the novel.
I don't know how well that will play out. Weber's romantic interludes usually work as convincingly as George Lucas'; he's much more comfortable describing big space battles!

The science fiction writing community has joined with several publishing houses to create the Octavia Butler Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor the internationally acclaimed African American science fiction writer who died last month.
Three publishers, Warner Books, Seven Stories Press and Beacon Press along with the Science Fiction Hall of Fame and Museum have joined forces to establish the fund. The scholarships will allow a minority writer to attend one of the Clarion writers workshops where Butler got her start.
The first scholarship will be awarded in 2007. The fund will be administered by the Carl Brandon Society, an organization founded to support the representation of the issues of race, ethnicity and culture in the science fiction, horror and fantasy genres.
"Octavia Butler has been a beacon for thousands of us," said novelist Walter Mosley. "This award will continue her legacy making sure that others will find their way to harbor."
Tax deductible donations should be made payable to The Carl Brandon Society. Donations should note that they are for The Octavia E. Butler Memorial Scholarship Fund and can be sent to: The Carl Brandon Society; P.O. Box 23336, Seattle, WA, 98102

Dude, it's Iron Maiden. They were all married with kids by the time they became famous. I think Paul Di'Anno was the only one who ever did drugs, and he admits it. And I don't see a whole lot of fans caring about why Dennis Stratton left the band or anything like that.
About the only thing I would be interested in reading about is the reasons Bruce Dickinson left the band when he did. At first all involved said it was an amicable split, then when he rejoined they said he had patched up his differences with the others (read: Steve Harris).

Hannibal grabbed the kitten with his little hand, spat out his pacifier and cruelly bit the poor animal's tail.
With a pitiful meow, the diminutive feline escaped his tormentor and ran under the couch, while Hannibal's mother, misunderstanding the situation, chastised it:
"Bad kitty. Leave Hanni alone!"

What I really admire about Sandford, going back to the first Prey novels - he had the guts to make Davenport really unsympathetic. Not in the 'anti-hero' 'hooker with a heart of gold' fashion, but really making the guy unlikable.
As well, his villains are always interesting. Their little psychoses and neuroses ring true.

Heh! Sorry about the silly comment, Deathstroke. I guess I don't much care for the "big titties and vampire" type of art that often graces the covers of such books. Irrespective of the quality of the story, they always strike me as gratuitous and vulgar. Perhaps I'm just not sensitive to the aesthetics of the modern vampire genre, but I always thought that the association between sex and vampires was way overblown.
Dracula had a certain charm about him and it could be argued that there was a sexual-like fascination in his relation with Mina Harker, but it could also be argued that what went on between them was no more than the relation between a snake and a bird. In any case, I doubt that the image of vampire ladies smearing blood on their humongous rack ever crossed Bram Stoker's mind when he wrote his novel.
By the way, I hope you won't think I'm out of line with this comment; I don't care for this type of cover, but I'm grateful to you for taking time to tell us about the book's publication (as there are many fans of the genre here). Your efforts in this and in all this thread are much appreciated.
And here's my version of the cover: a kinder, gentler and less carnal Drukija.
Cheers!

That's what I hoped, but it's a sequel to "The shadow of Saganami" (same universe, but parallel storylines). So the plot from the main Honor series probably won't be advanced much.
Still, it's good news... "Shadow of Saganami" had a certain freshness that had been missing from the more recent and ponderous Honor Harrington novels.

That's good news too. I love The Shadows of Saganami book.

The new Terry Brooks book The Legacy of Shannara Book 1: The Wards of Faerie is due out in August 2012. It is set 100 years after the High Druids of Shannara trilogy. More info:
"The Wards of Faerie, Book I in the Legacy of Shannara series, will be published in August 2012. It is the story set 100 years after the events of the High Druid of Shannara trilogy, where the people of the Four Lands have become largely distrusting of magic after the failed Third Council of Druids. But when a Druid stumbles upon information that might lead to the re-discovery of the lost Elfstones of Faerie, Ard Rhys of Paranor Khyber Elessedil must decide to undertake the most dangerous of missions to acquire them—at all costs.
To celebrate next year’s release of The Wards of Faerie, Terry and Del Rey Books are doing something really special for one reason: Terry has gotten ahead of his publishing schedule. He has been finished with The Wards of Faerie for almost a year and he is finishing its sequel in October. That means he is two full years ahead of schedule with his writing. As a way to celebrate the 35th publication anniversary of The Sword of Shannara and to give his fans a huge thank you for reading him all of those years, Terry and Del Rey Books have agreed to publish the three books in the Legacy of Shannara series in six month increments beginning August 2012!
That means fans will be able to read the entirety of the Legacy of Shannara trilogy in the span of a year—August 2012 (The Wards of Faerie), March 2013 (Book II), and August 2013 (Book III) respectively!
But that’s not all. Del Rey Books has agreed to make The Wards of Faerie a very special publication in its own right. Here are the highlights:
•Interior color artwork for the first time since publication of The Sword of Shannara
•A new two-page map of the Four Lands and beyond by Russ Charpentier
•Detailed schematics of Paranor
Pretty great, right? Terry and Del Rey are currently in discussions about the artist, cover art, the interior art, the schematics, and how best to bring The Wards of Faerie to you all. When we have more information, it will be posted here!
In the meantime, Book I in Legacy of Shannara is titled The Wards of Faerie! It will be published in August 2012 and be the beginning of something truly special!"
The new Sue Grafton book V Is For Vengeance will be out November 4th.
"
A woman with a murky past who kills herself-or was it murder? A dying old man cared for by the son he pummeled mercilessly. A lovely woman whose life is about to splinter into a thousand fragments. A professional shoplifting ring racking up millions in stolen goods. A brutal and unscrupulous gangster. A wandering husband, rich and powerful. A spoiled kid awash in gambling debt thinking he can beat the system. A lonely widower mourning the death of his lover, desperate for answers that may be worse than the pain of his loss. An elegant but ruthless businessman whose dealings are definitely outside the law: the spider at the center of the web.
And Kinsey Millhone, whose thirty-eighth-birthday gift is a punch in the face that leaves her with two black eyes and a busted nose.
V: Victim. Violence. Vengeance."
