It could be her kid brother, who was born recently... but Honor does indeed get pregnant in the novel.

I don't know how well that will play out. Weber's romantic interludes usually work as convincingly as George Lucas'; he's much more comfortable describing big space battles!

They should get the artist who did the trade covers to do them instead. The artist who did the laest one did a *bad* job, IMO.

The science fiction writing community has joined with several publishing houses to create the Octavia Butler Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor the internationally acclaimed African American science fiction writer who died last month.

Three publishers, Warner Books, Seven Stories Press and Beacon Press along with the Science Fiction Hall of Fame and Museum have joined forces to establish the fund. The scholarships will allow a minority writer to attend one of the Clarion writers workshops where Butler got her start.

The first scholarship will be awarded in 2007. The fund will be administered by the Carl Brandon Society, an organization founded to support the representation of the issues of race, ethnicity and culture in the science fiction, horror and fantasy genres.

"Octavia Butler has been a beacon for thousands of us," said novelist Walter Mosley. "This award will continue her legacy making sure that others will find their way to harbor."

Tax deductible donations should be made payable to The Carl Brandon Society. Donations should note that they are for The Octavia E. Butler Memorial Scholarship Fund and can be sent to: The Carl Brandon Society; P.O. Box 23336, Seattle, WA, 98102

Dude, it's Iron Maiden. They were all married with kids by the time they became famous. I think Paul Di'Anno was the only one who ever did drugs, and he admits it. And I don't see a whole lot of fans caring about why Dennis Stratton left the band or anything like that.

About the only thing I would be interested in reading about is the reasons Bruce Dickinson left the band when he did. At first all involved said it was an amicable split, then when he rejoined they said he had patched up his differences with the others (read: Steve Harris).

Excerpt:

Hannibal grabbed the kitten with his little hand, spat out his pacifier and cruelly bit the poor animal's tail.

With a pitiful meow, the diminutive feline escaped his tormentor and ran under the couch, while Hannibal's mother, misunderstanding the situation, chastised it:

"Bad kitty. Leave Hanni alone!"

What I really admire about Sandford, going back to the first Prey novels - he had the guts to make Davenport really unsympathetic. Not in the 'anti-hero' 'hooker with a heart of gold' fashion, but really making the guy unlikable.

As well, his villains are always interesting. Their little psychoses and neuroses ring true.

Ummmm Okay.

Heh! Sorry about the silly comment, Deathstroke. I guess I don't much care for the "big titties and vampire" type of art that often graces the covers of such books. Irrespective of the quality of the story, they always strike me as gratuitous and vulgar. Perhaps I'm just not sensitive to the aesthetics of the modern vampire genre, but I always thought that the association between sex and vampires was way overblown.

Dracula had a certain charm about him and it could be argued that there was a sexual-like fascination in his relation with Mina Harker, but it could also be argued that what went on between them was no more than the relation between a snake and a bird. In any case, I doubt that the image of vampire ladies smearing blood on their humongous rack ever crossed Bram Stoker's mind when he wrote his novel.

By the way, I hope you won't think I'm out of line with this comment; I don't care for this type of cover, but I'm grateful to you for taking time to tell us about the book's publication (as there are many fans of the genre here). Your efforts in this and in all this thread are much appreciated.

And here's my version of the cover: a kinder, gentler and less carnal Drukija.

Cheers!
