I just read that Tim Drake declared he would never take up the mantle of the bat. Were did he say this.

Probably in Teen Titans, during the "Titans Tomorrow" story, where he saw the kind of Batman he'd become, sort of Az-Bats, crossed with the Punisher.

He also doesnt want to be robin forever either.he says something like one day he will hang up the cape.

Wasn't his whole rationale behind becoming Robin that "Batman needs a Robin"? I can't see him taking over for Bruce without his own sidekick.

Hmm...

Hey, I just read that! It was in Nightwing #6, back in 1997.

Of course, didn't he also just say it (to himself) in Teen Titans #18 or #19, a few months ago?

But doesn't Tim stay Robin in Kingdom Come? Or was that somebody else?

nope thats dick grayson who reassumes his robin persona... calling himself Red Robin. IIRC Tim Drake wasn't part of Kingdom Come....unless he was that pilot who was gonna drop the bomb

Besides which, Kingdom Come was an Elseworld and thus has no real bearing on the character's motivations.

That's right, now I remember. I wasn't sure who it was. It's been a long time since I last read it.

Who knows? Some writer in the near future could just decide that either Robin or Nightwing could use some new flavor and make either one that character.

I knew it was an Elseworlds tale, just wasn't sure WHO it was.

He's been saying it ever since he became Robin. Since the early days he's moved on from saying he'll hang up his tights to saying he'll carry on as a vigilante but wont ever be Batman.

Things change.

Well some things change, Bruce Wayne being Batman wont.

The first time I think I read this is, there was an early Gotham Knights in the 10-15 issue region where Tim said this. But I am a relatively new reader.

I think they also had him say so in the PRELUDE TO INFINITE CRISIS... which takes bit from all the different comics w/ tie-ins

Tim Drake as Robin was always one of my favorites, and I was always bothered by his willingness to give up being Robin someday. I was a hardcore reader in the 1990s, but have been away from what's going on (although I did read the "Hush" TPB in a couple afternoons of sitting at Barnes and Noble-- stellar stuff). Anyway, with the Batman Begins frenzy right now, I've been looking at comics again, and have been confused. Namely, what events led to the death of Tim's father, Jack Drake? Is that why he became Robin again after quitting briefly? And what's he doing in Bludhaven?

While these questions may seem unrelated to this thread, it seems to me if his father's death was enough to persuade Tim to become Robin again, will it keep him Robin?

Help?
